Alright i currently have the Asus P5K-E with Wifi motherboard right now and it's a pretty good one. Here are the specs of it : http://asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=dFAMIWrZWGgB1GuJ OK so now the problem is that i have been desperately trying to find a way of getting rid of my random blue screens of death (BSOD) for more than a month. So i tested everything i could (graphic card, cpu and ram) and they are all ok. So I'm figuring the problem is the motherboard. I might have accidentally break something on it while moving everything to my new case (Antec nine-hundred ). I'm gonna switch motherboards with one of my friend to see if it is really the cause of the problem. But alright, my question here is what would you suggest for an equivalent or better motherboard than this one? My budget is about 200$ (Canadian dollars) maximum. And if they can help in any way, here are my specs : Motherboard : P5K-E with wifi (socket 775) CPU : Core2Quad Q9550 2.83ghz 12mb L2 cache 1333fsb RAM : Corsair XMS2 2x2gb 800mhz Oh and thanks in advance!
Before you go that route, have you rule out a software problem? Recently I updated my free antivirus avg 8.5 to version 9.0. After this update I started getting ramdom BSOD's every other day. My internet also started to slowdown. I decided to replace avg antivirus with avira ,this simple change got rid of the BSOD, haven't had one in weeks. Unless you know for a fact that you broke something on the motherboard, example a capacitor fell off etc, my advice is to remove any programs that you might have recently added. Also you can try updating your drivers (bad drivers will cause BSOD).
I would follow jony218's advice first, but if you determine that your motherboard does need to be replaced, you have a lot of options. I would suggest something like a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Motherboard with an add-on wi-fi card similar to a D-Link DWA-556 IEEE 802.11n IEEE 802.11g IEEE 802.11b PCI Express. Both should fall within your budget. Dick
I would recomend getting a USB wifi adapter instead of that dlink...you will get better performance/conectivity for less money.
Oh my god! I feel dumb of not having think about it cuz i did update to avg 9.0 at about the same time i started having these bsods. It sucks cuz i never had any problems with avg but now that you mention it....with avg 9.0 i've had problems. That might be it. And yeah i'm always very very careful when changing hardware in my computer lol. So it's kinda unlikely. I guess i'll try changing antivirus. Well then, which antivirus do you guys suggest? (free if possible)
There is one thing tough, jony, i recently wiped all my hard drives and installed windows 7 pro 64-bit, and i installed a few programs including avg 9 i think and i had a bsod a bit later.
I'm using windows xp, with the free avg 9.0 I think it's the extra antispyware tools they added that was giving me problems. Avira free antivirus is what I am using now, it loads up faster than avg but does cause more false positives (which I can live with). I also never had any problems with avg (previous versions) only this latest 9.0 version gave me problems. From what I know about windows (any version 64 bit), they are more susceptible to BSOD due to driver issues. So if the antivirus doesn't fix it, you might have a driver issue to investigate.
i setup a new laptop a month ago with win7 with avg9, ccleaner, spybot s&d, easy cleaner & windows free registry repair with no problems yet.
I just recently switched to 64-bit, but i had 32-bit with avg 9.0 before and i still had bsods. But now i got rid of avg 9 and installed avira antivir. So i'm gonna see how it goes with it.
Alright i just had one now....So i guess the problem was not the antivirus....*sigh* Please people, any suggestions on a new motherboard or fixing the problem.

Yes i know that and i thank you. But i just want to get different suggestions so that i can compare and decide between the different motherboards. And like i said, i want at least an equivalent motherboard or better. I know for a fact that Gigabyte makes good mobos. I had one before changing to the one i have right now, it never had a problem. Edit : Ok, i guess i didn't look enough at the specs of that gigabyte motherboard . It looks like it's an excellent motherboard, It's better than mine no doubt. But i still wouldn't mind other suggestions . Thanks again guys!
