I am editing and joining alot of mpeg's, avi's, and wmv's with Windows Movie Maker. The only output format is .wmv and I'm only a little ways into my project, but I'm thinking I don't want to have my files in .wmv. Is there a "best" all around format to keep the files in? There is a bigger chance they will just stay on my harddrive rather than being burned to DVD. Also, I need an an easy editing tool that lets you choose the output format? Adobe Premiere Pro looks like more than I need, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure than you can import/export in any format with APP, but is there maybe something else somebody can recommend? Thanks
If you must use wmm, save as DV-AVI, not .wmv There is no editing tool that will accept any file format, and output any file format. Most editors work with either avi, or mpg, and a few will work with both. For hard drive storage only, .wmv works. Avi would also work, if you use the right codec and the right settings to maintain some quality. But why use up a ton of hard drive space? Just burn the files to dvd as data.
