Looking for some software to do some light title creating. I'd like to make a short little logo for my home movie transfers. Animinated text with some type of background. I've looked into Adobe Premiere, and Ulead, but I think those might be an overkill. Any applications dealing specifically with creating video logos, or tutorial about this?

I,ve never really seen any software just for creating logos. It is usually just part of a larger video editing package.
NeroVision Express has some nice text effects. It is just a matter of importing a video clip and then applying the text with effects. If you have digital stills (.jpg, etc) you can convert them into a slideshow and then run that through the "make a DVD video" program to add the text effects. I have made lots of intros, etc doing this. While you are at it you may want to add some audio as well.

You could even do this using Windows Movie Maker which comes with XP. While I was typing this, I opened WMM and applied a spinning text effect on a .jpg image. Took about two minutes. I sent the little clip to my HDD as .avi DV.

I wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars for something like Premiere Pro just to make simple titles. These programs do give you a lot more options though.
