I have virus in my computer! Yes quite original you'd say. I have formatted the hard drive several times but the virus(es) are still in. I took it to 2-3 shops and technicians told me they are Adwar(!) that cannot be taken out and no antivirus can recognize them! I cannot login to some of my emails and with some specific antivirus programs when I try to scan the computer stucks. Also it stucks in many other occassions! The computer is P4 quite new and used to work fine until some time ago, therefore I dont think it is a problem of hardware. The technicians told me that the best antivirus for this kind of problems is Panda. Therefore I have bought it. It has found some viruses but still the problems persist. Any ideas?
Welcome durutti to AD!! Sometimes you can trust tech support and sometimes you can't. I wish you would have tried the following steps before formatting your machine. 1st get an Ad-Ware program called ewido. You can find it at this web site. http://www.ewidow.net/en Next get another Ad-Aware program from lavasoft. You may download it at download.com. While you are there get another program called Spybot Search & Destroy. If you don't have an anti virus get AVG (free) from download.com. Last but not least your most important tool is a program called Hijack This. [bold]Edit: You may find this program at hijack-this.org. Don't worry about the warning. We will tell you what to remove![/bold] Now reboot the computer in safe mode (press F8 while booting). Safe mode does not allow start up programs to run. Run both Ad-Aware programs, then run Spybot. After those programs are finished and before you reboot back to standard mode run a virus scan. Any viruses found list them on thread and we will help you remove them. If by some chance Spybot says that you need to reboot, don't do it until you have finished the AV scan. Now reboot your computer again and once you have logged on run HjT. Post the HjT log here for us to view.
thanks for your reply the only one I havent tried is hijack i have tried these programs and more and none of them can find the viruses and some even freeze while scanning. do you think the virus can be hidden after formatting. a guy told me something i couldnt possibly believe. he said that some viruses do not go even after deeply (and correctly) formatting. is it possible? or just the virus is somewhere else hidden (bios?is there any other place?)
He is correct by saying that. Most viruses may be removed by reformatting your machine. However, my theory is that I never reformat my machine because I loose valuable information. I only back up my machine once a month and in a months time there could be information I do not want to loose. Now back to my first question. Did you run the scans in safe mode? If you did and a virus was not detected then download a program called Hijack This. You can find it at hijack-this.org. Post your report and I will tell you what items to remove.

PS: Currently I am using Avast antivirus and as you can see I have also other programs as a2. I have removed nod32 and McAfee long time ago and I cannot understand why they still appear..
durutti McAfee still appears because it is in you registry. If you notice the two cases where McAfee shows there is no file attached. Wow I am at a loss for you. You may run HjT again and remove these items but maybe what you should do is rename the program from Hijack This to something original like TryAndHide. The only reason I mention this is because there are viruses that detect HjT and hide themselves from it. The only other suggestion that I could give you is to download another program called XoftSpySE. You may download it at: http://xoftspy.com/?gclid=CNiOsuPqt4YCFSQ3UAodZiJ1Ng This particular Ad-Aware scans deeper than the rest. Run it in safe mode and maybe it will detect the virus. Hopefully that will remedy the issue. After you rename HjT you can post another log for me to look at. what do you mean to rename hijack how I will do this? I also downloaded the other program you recommended. any other ideas? for example when i connect to the internet there is no connection icon in the taskbar so the only way to disconnect is to shut down or reboot! the resolution of my screen changes randomly no matter how I set it. all the programs you recommended me in your first post have just found medium and low threats (cookies) since the beginning of all these problems and since before the formats and all these also the TV tuner stopped working! I know all these may seem irrelevant but I just mention them in case they can help you. The first technician during Christmas 2005 said there were malwares he could not possibly remove from the pc. The second technician adviced to format and install the original Panda antivirus just after the installation of windows. is it possible that after 7-8 months there are not programs able to remove a certain malware or virus or whatever it is thanks again for your trouble and I hope we end up to something good
To rename Hijack This you will have to go to the location of the device. Mine is located at c:\program files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe. Just rename the file by right clicking and selecting change name. To show the connection icon it the task bar, select the control panel -> Network and Internet Connections-> Network Connections. Right click your connection and select properties. Under the General check the box that says, “Show icon in notification area when connected” But obviously this isn’t going to fix the problem. There is another site you might try called techrepublic.com. I’m sure someone there could help you get it figured out. Or at least I hope so.

Make sure that you dump your temp files and your cache files. Also try this program in safe mode. XoftSpy http://xoftspy.com/?gclid=COHLm465uoYCFQ42LAod3USBTA This program is suppose to do a deeper cleaning than the rest of them. Good luck!
have you tried fdisk/mbr as can get rid of virus in master boot record? done that a few time. have to delete & make new partition before formatting the drive as just formatting doesn't always get rid of the problem.
dututti fdisk/mbr is the command. You use this command at the dos prompt. Basically what you are telling it to do is format the disk in the master boot record and restore it. Since you are using XP Service Pack 2 I would use the fixmbr command in your dos prompt. XP has several save conditions that older O/S systems did not have. You may read on the fixmbr at this location: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/.../proddocs/en-us/bootcons_fixmbr.mspx?mfr=true
Disable TeaTimer before you try to fix lines (instructions http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm). That should do the trick.
so you mean i can do this fdisk/mbr in the command prompt and I will not lose data on my harddisk?i didnt find much in the microsoft page
