adware/spyware

    is there a free tool that will actually stop adware/spyware getting into my computer any advice please

    Quite a few available - Adaware, Spyware and Microsoft AntiSpyware are all very good and free.

    For a good free antivirus program you could try AVG.

    Key to all these programs is to keep your definitions current (checking for updates on a regular basis).

    There is a free program that blocks active-x based spyware that attempts to install on your computer.

    Go to www.javacoolsoftware.com and look for Spyware Blaster 3.3

    Another great program in the fight against spyware (not to mention another form of protection) is called Spyware Guard (also from the same website I mentioned above). It acts as a resident, real-time scanner to detect changes made to your homepage...

    Other proggys to consider: Spyware Doctor, Ad-Aware 1.05, Spybot: Search & Destroy 1.3, Bazooka Spyware and Adware Scanner

    Another solid and free anti-virus scanner you could try out is: AntiVir XP ( www.free-av.com)
