Turn off 'Hide extensions for known file types'. If you don't know how to do this Google it. If it's filename.iso then you can burn it to a disc. Chances are you getting confused with the icons. If a particular file type is associated with a specific program, then it will display that icon for that file. For instance, if you have .ISO associated with WinRAR (so that it opens with WinRAR), then it should display a WinRAR icon for that file, BUT that does not mean it is a RAR archive.
