Hello there. I'm just curious how a site that doesn't require you to pay a cent for registering has some of the most helpful and in-depth information I've ever come accross. Normally I see like a 30-dollar charge for web sites that don't even compare to this one. This is certainly a geek's haven (in a good way).

Well it would keep spammers away but the number of users would drop straight away, a lot of people are under 18 or don't have a CC so they would be stuck if they had to pay. That's why this site is great it's free <^_^>

    hey guys,

i learned all my dvd backing up here.. wether its on Mac or PC, and i am constantly checking to make sure that the newbies get all their information as the aD addicts and other members taught me. its my way of paying the community back.

i don't even remember i found aD.. i really don't remember. but hey...
    sharing the knowledge=sharing the wealth

i'll stick around for a while... we'll see what happens in the future.

Yes, Thank you is all we ever ask for on here. Back almost 2 years ago when I bought my first dvd burner I did a search for the problem I was having and ended up on here. My questions were answered in one day and along with many excellent suggestions from then Senior members has my burn success rate at just about 100% now. One of our present members catch phrase is TEACH AND LEARN. For me it has become reversed since I learned as much as I could and now try to teach it to others. I still learn tricks every now and then from just reading the forum posts. I hope my answers at least help sometimes.

Mine is similar to jerry's, bought a DVD burner, not ever having backed up a DVD before, even though i work with PC's every day @ work, got sme good advise and have been here since, on a previous username and this one

The cost to maintain the servers etc come from the ad's which are displayed on the site, hence not costing you anything.

@Jerry746 - i for one always value your posts, they're always very useful.

@esrever - AD is definitely one of the busiest sites i know of.

Like the others said, it's all worth it for a 'thanks', especially when we have to fight for it, ie problems go on for days (and sometimes by then we'd make do with a 'thanks, but no thanks'!).

i blatantly tweaked ddp's "tweak & burn" but don't get to use it to much as most of the burning-related posts i reply to, are never followed up by the original posters, but hey, the posts are used often as i'm always referring to them for new threads that come along..

Thanks Creaky, the same can be said about your posts along with DDp, Arniebear, Auslander, Scubabud to name a few off the top of my head. I could go on listing many of the members on here that although newer members than I am, have become sort of the new backbone of Afterdawn. I miss many of the oldtimers I remember starting with that don't post much anymore. You guys now fill in that gap. Many of my posts repeat information that can be found many times using the search, but telling a new member to USE THE SEARCH FEATURE if not done properly can sound rude and may make them leave AD. So I would rather repeat the basic information and then suggest the SEARCH FEATURE at the end of the post. You guys/gals all do well. I realize there are many members I should have on the above list of names. I didn't mean to leave anyone out, those were just a few that came to mind.

and lets not forget the fearless mods that get to sift thru tons of bullshit daily in order to keep the place clean and tidy. it's truly a thankless job, but i got a "thank you" a few months ago and i'm still riding on that one, so i'm still here. HA, who am i kidding, i'll be here till i'm dead. thankless job yes, no pay yes, tons of joy having a ban button, oooooh yes :)

the main reason why i am here is to help people and as i am only 15, if the site were to start charging i could not pay and therefore i could not share the wealth of information i know (not meant to sound cocky)

PS: i would like to write a big f*cking [bold]THANK YOU[/bold] to all the moderaters for the mass amound of effort you guys put in to maintain such an awesome site...

@darthnip, All of you Mods should have been first on the list (Sorry for that). There aren't too many forums I have visited that have the proper MOD control that this forum has. You guys know when to let things slide and when to hit the BAN button at the right time. Great job to all of you.

no problem, we dont do it for the thank you's, we all started here as noobs looking for information the same as everyone else. We just stuck around then dRD roped us down before we could slip away. Every once in a while it gets to me and i think about calling it quits, but i always end up staying. the good outweighs the bad by far, so we cant let a little irritaion from some idiot get the best of us. we do it because we enjoy it.
