v8/v9/v10 ps2 users cannot use the SM2 (swap magic 2.0) CD on their ps2's, but they can use their SM2 DVD's.
here is the install process: boot up your SM2 DVD, swap in the cogswap loader dvdr, eject in an original ps2 cd game,
and then swap in the exploit install cd-r. So you need a flipt top or slide card tool for this to work. And make sure the cogswap image is burned to a dvdr and not cdr. Also remember an original PS2 CD game not psx game.

    Rotary 8,

Thanks for the info. I will give it a shot. I have Swap Magic
CD 3.0. I thought that was supposed to work on v8+ Cds.

If Version 3.0 is also not workable on V8+, It is pretty sad that
Swap Magic failed to mention this fact on their Web site.

What is weird is that I tried the SM CD disk over and over for
2 hours, since I had read that it is having problem. Finally
after 2 hours, I was able to read the cd that I had made, but it
only worked once. It did not work after that.

Anyway, since I was able to load that exploit, I now have
Cogswap on my memory card. Will your solution work using
the Cogswap on the MC? Can you tell me the steps needed
to use load one of these exploiit cds using the Cogswap on
    MC?

    Thanks for the help.

So your just like me where you want to put HDLoader exploit on your MC correct? If so just reload the exploit since that is what i did. First insert SMDVD, then swap or use flip top for CogSwapDVD loader, then EJECT not swap for PS2 old blue cd disk, then swap or flip top for HD exploit. Wait for it to complete then restart with your psx game and you should be good to go!

    Rotary8,

Actually I have HD Advance, HD Loader, and Cogswap on my MC. I just want to be able to run hdadvance, and have it transfer a backup game to the HDD.

ok im trying to make the exploit to boot hdloader from a mem card, and i got these steps to do it with a totally unmodded ps2 with hd loader:

    1. Make yourself the Exploit (you'll only need the BOOT.ELF and Title.db)
    2. Transfer the Image of EXECFTP to the HD via your PC or swapping
    3. Start EXECFTP and FTP with your PC to the /MC/0 Directory on your PS2
    4. Copy BOOT.ELF and TITLE.DB to your Memcard's BE(U/J)DATA-SYSTEM Directory
    5. Start with your PSX-Original.

    Questions:
    1. Are these steps correct?
    2. Does 'Exploit' refer to the HD Loader exploit? If so, can someone give me a link to it (i need the PAL version, or doesn't it matter?)?
    3. Could I do these same steps with the PS2 Independence Exploit instead of HD Loader Exploit and a different mem card and a different psx disc?
    4. Can someone give me a working link to EXECFTP plz? i can't find anywhere to download it from google.
    5. What do i need to run on my pc when i start EXECFTP?
    6. Step 4 says BE(U/J)DATA-SYSTEM Directory. I have a PAL console so what system directory do i copy BOOT.ELF and TITLE.DB to? BE or BU or BJ? or am i not understanding what this means?
    7. Do i have to modify BOOT.ELF or TITLE.DB in anyway to make the exploit boot with my psx disc?
    8. How much free space do i need on my memory card?

Thanks so much if these Q's get answered, i'm a total newb (STILL). And i hope this hasn't been asked before, because i have been searching round for this for a very long time. Also i hope these aren't too stupid questions.

I'm using my gameshark CD to try to boot HDLoader and all I keep getting is Gameshark. I got the Installation Successful message for the exploit and I've checked to make sure that the SLUS name is correct in my TITLE.DB. The correct memory card is in slot 1. What else could be the problem?

I'm using a PS2 gameshark but I'm using CD2 to try to boot, which is pretty much a PS1 CD. Problem is, it doesn't exactly have a SLUS name. When I try to make a TITLE.DB file using that CD in my computer, it's SLUS name comes up as PSXMAIN.EXE. I also looked it up in notepad and it gives me the same thing. So, I tried burning this to a CD and it installs fine. Once I try to boot using the ganeshark's CD2, I get a black screen. I don't currently have any other PS1 CD's with me which is why I'm dying to get this to work. Any suggestions?

I have not heard of it working with an unoffical PS1 cd. The gameshark CD is prolly not an offical Sony authorized press, and likely will not work. PS1 games are very cheap if you get them used. I wouldnt give up until I tried this.

I just actually bought a new PS1 CD, and it still doesn't work. The ID is right, I have all the necessary files, I've tried different files from different sources, my hard drive was formatted with winhiip, and I'm completely lost on what to do to get rid of my black screen. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

HDLoader should boot, even if you dont have a drive in your PS2.

OK... You bought a PS1 disc, and inserted the SLUS name into TITLE.DB using titleman.exe. right? Then you need to delete your "corrupted data" file from your mem card before trying to do the exploit again. Make sure that you ONLY have a mem card in slot 1. Run the exploit CD using the Gameshark method or whatever. Did you get the "Installation Complete" message? If so, put the PS1 game in and reboot the PS2. Does HDLoader screen eventually come on, or does the PS1 game start playing? If the PS1 game starts playing, then either the exploit didnt install or something is wrong with TITLE.DB . Let me know what happens, and I will help you more.

Thank you very much for the help. I don't ever get to PS2 Menu, HD Loader, or anything like that. All I get is a black screen when the PS1 disk would normally boot. The SLUS is correct, I use only the memory card in slot 1, I get the Installation Complete message, and it just ends up with a black screen. One thing, when i look at my memory card in the browser, I see "Your System Configuration", not "corrupted data". Does that mean anything? If not, I'm still lost and need help

Make sure you are using a Sony mem card. That may be the difference. I'm not sure if you want to delete that file or not. Its worth a try.

I am using a SONY memory card and that "Your System Configuration" file is the file that is installed, I believe, when the exploit installation completes. I don't actually ever get a "corrupted data" file

OK, then delete it, and try the exploit again. Your first attempt you used a questionable CD, and did not get rid of that install afterward.

My problem is that I followed the steps of three different tutorials, including yours notmyname, with several attempts on each with several CD's, with the files specified in each tutorial, and I'm still not getting it. There could just be a problem with the actual installation of the export. It says installation complete, but maybe some or one of my files is in the wrong place, in the wrong folder on my CD or image, I could, though I doubt it, be missing files, or maybe when they were renamed (if they were at all renamed) by the person who made them, something isn't working correctly. I don't know what it could be but I have a million ideas and I've tried about 999,999 of them so I'm wondering if anybody has heard of this or knows any other ideas that could help. Notmyname, I appreciate the help, and keep it coming as long as you can please because I really want this to work, even if it takes me days and CD-R's (though I've already been working on this for two days straight and have gone through literally almost 10 CD-R's. Thanks guys.

All files on the CD must be in uppercase. PM me with your email address and SLUS name for the PS1 disc and I'll try to further your cause.
