A 1 sheep burner backups Safedisc 2.8.x I thought one needed a 2 sheep burner to accomplish this? Well I've done some extensive testing and produced countless coasters but tonight, I backed up Safedisc 2.8 with an LG(Lucky Goldstar) GCE 0824b burner. What is a 1 sheep burner? A one sheep burner writes regular bit patterns [bold] almost correctly [/bold] compared to a 2 sheep burner as they write regular bit patterns [bold] correctly [/bold](EFM encoding\eight to fourteen modulation) To get started I'll post a list of 2 sheep burners (a little outdated) so you'll kinda know where your burner falls into place. If you don't see your burner on the list than chances are your burner is 1 sheep (counting already)....

First be sure that autorun is enabled on your o\s or your backup will not play! If you disabled autorun and don't know how to enable, a simple solution is to install CloneCD and go to tools>settings>auto insert notification>check enable auto insert notification.
    CloneCD:http://elby.ch/english/products/clone_cd/index.html
    [bold]Settings I used with Alcohol 120 1.4.3.518: [/bold]
    -----------------------------------------------
Insert the Safedisc 2.8-2.9 protected cd in your burner and go to image making wizard. Down near the bottom where it says datatype choose Safedisc 2 (fast skip error blocks& skip read error should be checked and click next. Make a new folder on your hd and save the image of your Safedisc 2.8-2.9 protected cd and click start. You'll see during the extraction process read errors so ignore as this is common reading Safedisc 2.8-2.9 as bad sectors are located in the first 10, 000 sectors of the protected cd. After you've finished reading the image insert a blank cd-r in your burner and click image burning wizard. Near the top locate the image you just read to your hd and click next. Down near the bottom where it says datatype, choose Safedisc 2 and burn RAO DAO at max. After you've burned the image now open Alcohol 120 go to options>general>emulation and check "ignore media type" . Go to extra emulation and check Bad Sector& Laserlock emulation.
Minimize Alcohol 120 to system tray (startup) and your backup should play in your [bold] burner, not your dvd\cd-rom [/bold]. If Alcohol 120 fails to write when you choose datatype (Safedisc 2), then change to custom and try again [bold] as I had to [/bold]. Alcohol 120 is best for backing up Safedisc (for now as Macrovision continually updating Safedisc versions). Cheers "1 sheep burner owners" :)
    Alcohol 120:http://www.alcohol-software.com/
Note that most EA (Electronic Arts) pc sport games are "hotwired" to run only from their installation drive. Simply this means whichever drive you choose to read the image then you would play the backup in that same drive. [bold] Note that you need the aid of emulation to play your backup! (ignore media type\hide cd-r) [/bold]
    ----------------------------------------------
I'm laughing at Macrovision all the way to the bank simply because this company spends millions of dollars on this cd protection and with my test results, any burner should be able to make a legal backup of the software they purchased (Safedisc). So get your copy of Alcohol 120 today and send them an email thanking them for a great victory!

Well the advantage owning a 2 sheep burner, your backups will most likely play in dvd\cd-roms as compared to 1 sheep burners, backup needs emulation of some sort. I'm persuaded when backing up Safedisc 2.8-2.9 to read the image with your burner, rather than your dvd\cd-rom. I did another test this morning and read the image with the LG GCE 0824b and the backup played in my burner (LG) without any emulation (ignore media type, bad sector). All I needed was Alcohol 120 running in system tray, lol.

I have a Sony CDX1611, it makes perferct backups of safedisc 2.8-2.9 using Alcohol120, this writer wasn't mentioned in your list as a '2 sheep burner' but works fine with autorun disabled
How do I tell if this model is a 1 or 2 sheep burner?
And one last thing, what's all this sheep stuff mean, do you know of a URL that would enlighten me on this topic? I'm sure there are lots of people out there that feel this way.
    Thanks a heap,

"2 sheep burners": writes regular bit patterns correctly (EFM encoding)
"1 sheep burners": writes regular bit patterns [bold] almost [/bold] correctly.
Go to the following link and then supported writers and locate your Sony and [bold] look [/bold] at EFM encoding. If you see a "2 sheep score rating"= great burner for backing up Safedisc 2.8-2.9 without the aid of using emulation (most cases).

Did the backups play in your dvd\cd-rom\dvd-burner?
Uninstall Alcohol 120% and make sure backups play in both drives(if applicable). If they do and you need NO emulation(ATIP hide cd-r tool) then report your Sony to team Elby(CloneCD), Alcohol 120%, Blindwrite Suite) as a "2 sheep burner".
