if i back up a pc game using alcohol 120% using the image making wizard, and i use the datatype safedisc2/3 setting will that remove the copy protection from the file? when i go to burn the image to a cd will i need to select the safedisc2/3 datatype again? or will i need to choose normal cd?

If your game is Safedisc Protected then yes you will need to select safedisc2/3 for your read and write. Alcohol does not remove the prottection but writes it back to your copy.

Also I would recommend to read and write at 8x if possible...less errors.
