Hi all. Following a virus alert (picked up by Avast), I have ran a full scan using Malwarebytes, and it has removed some rogue items.

However my list of programs (Star / All programs) has been wiped down from about 50 options to about 12. Ive also lost the shortcuts I had in my system tray.

Can I restore these files, as I do have a full backup of my system.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Windows XP 2002 SP3.

Hi . Yes, thanks, I tried a system restore - but it said 'no files were restored', as if it found nothing wrong.

When I boot up the pc it now takes agess to boot up - it gets to the 'Windows XP ' screen - the blue bars keep moving , but takes ages to load.

Also, if I try and play a video file its very slow and breaks up - but if I then rewind to the start of it ,it then plays okay up to the point I pressed rewind ( if that helps) .Same with any sound recording.

The internet appears to function okay.

Not sure if my menu issue and this 'new' speed issue is related.
