i have a Q9550 that is oc'ed to 3.0 and my cpu temps in easytune are 38'c while just browsing the net and IM'ing. are my temps to high? what do all you aD'ers who have the Q9550 temps run?
I'm using Realtemp to monitor my temps, my temps are 38c idle and 65c load at 4ghz.. I would recommend you use coretemp or realtemp to monitor your system temps, easytune6 isn't accurate at all. Your temps are fine by the way, what are your load temps?? That's more important then idle temps??
Just download a program called OCCT which will stress the cpu under full load for an hour and have realtemp running in the background to monitor your temps, there are other programs such as IBT,Prime95 and Orthos which stress the cpu and memory but if you'd like to get a general idea of where your temps stand then one hour of OCCT will stress your cpu at one hundred percent load.. Make sure you go to the options and set the Thermal Junction(TJ Max)to 95c..
elusiv1 ok but is this Thermal Juntion option in the OCCT setting? if so then where because i don't see it.
Click on the yellow button, go to monitoring and make sure the max cpu temp is 95c.. Below that you'll see an option for software, make sure it says built in.
That's the toughest stress test of all right there, IBT generates to most heat out of all the programs i just mentioned.. What cooler are you using if you don't mind me asking?? You can overclock with the stock cooler up to 3.4ghz and you'll still be ok with the temps anything after that i'd replace the stock cooler if you haven't already.
That's a nice cooler you have, how high do you plan on taking your overclock in the future? The Q9550 is an awesome chip isn't it, I don't plan on upgrading this chip for a long time. Let me know how i can help if you want to overclock her even higher, take care and enjoy your Q9550.
elusiv1 yeah it's a nice chip and i don't know if i will take it any higher because as of right now. i am not liking my idle temps and every other review that i read on this cooler there temps are lower than mine.
I have 2 stuck core sensors that won't drop any lower then 46c, i know that's not accurate because my other 2 cores idle at 37c. Many 45nm chips are not accurate between 40-47 degrees, the only true way to check idle temps is to use a temp sensor on the IHS itself.
You can try resetting the cooler and Re-apply the thermal paste if it's not too much trouble for you, i know it sucks having to remove the motherboard and all.. Or you can Lap the cooler, lapping is when you sand your heat sink fan and/or your processor to even the surfaces which creates better heat conductivity resulting in lower cpu temps. To have optical contact you want the surface to be as flat as possible.
