why are [bold]senior members[/bold] having a little newbie flame war here? what the hell? you guys don't have to like each others' opinions, but you have tolerate them, and that requires a certain level of respect around here. knock it off! and Reasons?, if your time is that valuable and you can't take a few more seconds to create some legible posts, then don't post at all, man.

Why would that be, oh, because they only have a few chopped away fake models to show around. Oh lets see, how do we do this, we have two options??

Option A - Bland silicon wafer

Option B - Dye specific areas to highlight the marketed attributes like SPEs

Oooh, I know, let go with option B. Gee Sony I think I coudl work in your marketign dept.

Those images are all prototype according to IBM, prototype plastic f*ing models. Don't be such a prick and listen to someone who know swhat they are talkign about. Here's a real phot of one from IBM themselves http://www.research.ibm.com/cell/cell_chip.html

"Hey mommy an dad da, look at the pretty colors of this ps3 thingy.. oo they are so cool, those are SPEs, ooo, I can see them and pick them out real easy!" LOL, IMAO.

So we are having a littl eargument, trying to sift through some fact and some false. BUT YOU, omg, th emighty addict, all powerful and knowlegable one who knows how to post many many times comes in and sets everything straight!! WOW

Get off your high whore man, you didn't do jack but b*tch and whine. You arent' a moderator and just made a very off topic and condecending post.

Dont' ask questions you know the answer to.

    Auslander;

You are fighting a losing battle here, buddy.

I've seen the way some of these guys talk to people (even the moderators), and they've no respect whatsoever for anyone or anything apart from their opinions...

Correct, we are Addicts, not moderators. But the fact that we are addicts shows that we care. I care about these forums and the way they are operated. Hence the reason I try and step in every once in a while to try and calm things down/get some sense into people.

But, eventually, a moderator will have had enough of you's, and oust all of you.

Hell, maybe next time you'll come back with a little more [bold]respect[/bold]!!

yeah i agree i mean anubis is a ps3 fanboy but he is ok but on the other hand you say one comment and reasons flys off the handle

There is alot of Truth to that, Lethal, and alot that doesn't work they way you'd like. When someone comes on with nothign on the topic at all and this - "a little newbie flame war here" - they just become a catalyst.

I far as I was concerned it wasn't so much a flame war. A flame war is where poeple have nothing but opinions and propaganda and just yell and swear at each other.

Here, I just had to convince anubis that the pics aren't actully like that, and because I had the real phtotos and IBM's article where they said they just had prtotypes out, it WAS NOT a flame war.

I got impatient when I actually had to go get the link and stuff for him.

It's super easy to get impatient when they have nothign but "nuh - uh, I'm right because I have toher forumn users that believe the same thing, but hell, I dont' have any technical qualifications or evdidence"

Someone has to come in these threads and show who's lying, because when they convince someone to buy their system based on false facts, and then they regret it and realize the truth later, it's no fun the person who needed help.

i never said you wernt right, i didnt know myself. i just said in that pic the were lime blue/green.

i dunno if i posted this here now that i think about it, cuz i cant find it, but read this article.

the cell was revised. 4.0ghz, dual threaded ppe, 128 bit spe's, 256 gflops, those are just a few new things. this maybe be cause for the delay of new info about the ps3.

PS3 is still using 7 SPEs at 3.2GHz, the 256GFLOPS and 4GHz rating is with all 8 and theoretical, only the premium chips coming off th eline will achieve that and stability.

well if thats true, sony better change to the premium because it would be a smart move and cost little more.

It woudl cost way more and would be IMPOSSIBLE. They will be pressed to roll out Cell chips woth 7 functioning SPEs and the 3.2GHz rating, tons and ton sof chips will come out not workign at all (50% just like desktop CPUs) and a majority will only have 5 or 6 etc and have to be used elsewhere in consumer electronics.

The PS3 you get may very well be one of the hottest PS3s at 3.2GHz, or th eone you get coudl got to 4GHz+ and on up. But we all know clocking will be absolutely impossible on PS3.

the new revision is just the old one with everything put to a more efficient use. it would not cost much more.

then explain why a higher clock speed and connecting another spe would raise the price to built to a significant level.

Silicon wafer goes in, get's layered, cut, and comes out. You now can throw away half for non-functionality. Finishing, you now have some that don't work, and now you have some that work with varyign amoutns of SPEs and different level of stability.

Now you have to figure out a way to maximize something called "chip yield", if you only use the 8 SPE ones, you'll lose money on the 7 SPE ones wher eyou coudl have used the 7 SPE ones and 8 SPE ones (7 is estimate da sthe most common one coming off th eline, by far too). And out of all those 7 SPE or 8 SPE ones you need to pick a clock rate that th emajority of them can handle while performing.

They have set and still stick to 7 SPEs at 3.2GHz al laround - this is the point they have theorized to maximize their "chip yeild" helping reduce cost and make sure they can sell more PS3 at launch.

They don't give away exact numbers, but having to filter chips by 4GHz stability would push costs way way too high, and launch would be pushed back very far becuase all those 7SPE chips get put in storage for when they are needed in next years consumer electronics like PDAs and TVs.

I think what you are missing is that [bold]Sony has stuck to their 3.2GHz and 7 SPE standard, all those f*ing dev kits are having games developed for 7 SPEs at 3.2GHz, 7!!! 7!!!, 8 would be worthless with all those kits already out!! What like 4000 kits are out?[/bold]

dont the current kits only include a large hdd, atx mobo, ddr ram, and a 7800gtx? i think some even have a radeon in them, so says midway. no cell included.

I don't know what's in em hardware wise - what's important is that the programming software, guides, and compiler(s) are all set up to make games using one PPE and 7 SPEs at 3.2 GHz

    That will not change now.

yeah. with the 7spe configuration, the 8th is reserverd for error correction and redundancy.
