I've just recently purchased some new media software for our church and our computer wasn't able to run it properly. It only had a 256 ram so I purchased an extra 1 GB to put with it. I'm still having trouble running the software. I have 64 MB memory on my video card. Someone told me I might be able to go into BIOS and allocate more memory to my video card without having to go buy a new card. Is this possible and, if so, what are the steps to take to do this. My BIOS is Award Software 1984-2003. Thanks
you would enter your bios first. when your computer first boots, you should see a screen that says something like "enter bios" or "enter setup" and then a key sequence to access this. F8, F10, and DEL are the common keys. once in the bios, you would cruise around until you found information on your video card. if anything can be changed, it would be done here. honestly, though, graphics cards far superior to you 64 mb onboard chip can be picked up brand new for very cheap these days. you don't have to go top of the line to do anything but play the lastest games. from the sound of the machine (running 256 mb originally), you could find a card that nicely mates for ~$40 US.
ddp, the computer was made by a local computer store. Where do I look to find what type motherboard I have?
My motherboard is a Gigabyte 7 VAX Rev. 1:2 I bought a video card yesterday for 39.95. It was a GF FX5200 128MB DDR TV DVI. The card went in fine. When I rebooted the computer it went though the BIOS screen for just a second and then to the windows screen like it always does and then when my desktop should have appeared the screen went black. I have no idea what to try now.
try going into safemode & uninstall old videocard driver from add/remove programs. restart windows so it can find new hardware so you can install it's driver.
