Hello, I've been burning on Memorex DVD-R DL for awhile now, and just bought a new pack of 25. These are the same brand I've always used, but now i get a incompatibility error about a third of the way into burning everytime. I'm using Imgburn to burn my discs. Here's the log of the burn. That's by that Lightning UK! (the creator of ImgBurn) from his guide to burning DL disks. http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=4643
I start to have problems with Memorex Brand (DVD+R, DVD+R DL and DVD-RW) since 2 months ago. My solution was to up-grade my Media Quality and I change Brands: today I use JVC and Verbatim "NO Problems"
it's just really funny because I had a 100% success rate before, now it won't burn a single disc, something had to have changed. There must be a better solution then throwing away all my memorex dvd-dl and purchasing the more than 3x expensive Verbatim dvd-dl. Wierd thing is a used even cheaper nexxtech dvd dl and they burned but the output was terrible. Could it just be a conflict between the dvd-dl brand and the burner. anybody experience problems with matshita 850? are their any settings that could cause disc error? Could updating drivers fix this problem or maybe using another burning program? I am just really surprised since i never had problems before.
Trinket: I been Used Memorex for about 2 or 3 years with out any problems, exept the "Technical's problems that is normal". I think the problem was 'cos they maybe change the Factory and, or Country where they are made today or the Quality Control Personal or something else......the thing is that I end up in your situation. Change the Media to others comparable brands maybe the Solution, but you should up-grade your Media for a better quality. Those disk you have now do not gonna work in your PC not matter what you do (I done that already). What you can do is maybe save them and try to used them on another PC or for other diff proyects.
Hmmm... i think i'll try on another pc, hence another burner, and see if i can get better results thanks alot for the input so far..
I Say: "What you can do is maybe save them and try to used them on another PC or for other diff proyects" Becouse, maybe some of them are ok to burn into it. Do not know the %'s. But I also try the SONY made in Mexico, and out of 25 DVD+R only one come out burn ok. Today using better Media Quality Blank Disk's and using the same PC, ('cos I have 3 Laptop's) and make use of the same programs settings, etc. I have great results and no issues. Good Luck Trinket.
The problem is that the Memorex DVD+R DL you are now using are Ritek 8X DL discs, which means they are manufactured by the inverse stack method. Your drive does not recognize the IS discs because the recording layer appears upside down to it. There are two solutions: 1) buy a new, external DVD+R DL drive suited to IS discs (It would not be a Matsushita drive because they are typically very limited in their support of non-Japanese brands of media); or 2) switch to Verbatim only and hope they don't make the move to IS production (when Verbatim DL prices plummet--they've made the switch because IS is a far less expensive method of production as well as more likely to produce consistently good results). The issue is not one of disc quality but of incompatibility of formats. That is what the message "incompatible format" is trying to tell you.
Thanks alot Joeryan for that information, that makes alot of sense, any ideas as to which type of drive can support disc made by the inverse stack method. Since this seems to be a new way of making DL dvd a more recent burner would probably do the trick? i got a new asus g50 recently i have to check which burner i have, and see if it'll burn off that.
In my experience, Matsushita and Toshiba were two brands that had very limited support for newer MID (manufacturer identification) codes on DVD discs, particularly for those manufactured in Taiwan and India. Lite-on, Plextor, Pioneer, NEC, and Hitachi-LG were usually either very good out of the box or very supportive with issuing firmware updates once incompatibilities were pointed out to them. There are many other brands--Sony, HP, Memorex, Mad Dog, etc.--whose drives are actually manufactured by the names mentioned above. Unfortunately, Matsushita and Toshiba are the two most popular OEM drives found in laptops; and that causes a multitude of problems for consumers and the disc manufacturers whose discs are not supported but who get the blame for "poor quality" when laptop recordings don't work.
Okay so I attempted to burn using a RITEK burner, but it ultimately failed again. The error was much different this time though. Here: I 21:12:14 ImgBurn Version 2.5.0.0 started! Sure Berryone, I simply ran the microsoft automated troubleshooting service, from there i went to hardware and sound and then "My cd or dvd drive cannot read or write media" The first laptop which was a matsushita, which had no luck at all with the media i was using, but when i switched to my ritek drive, i realized i had some sort of corrupt file, so i repaired it with microsoft ATS. Now it works like a charm. I want to thank everybody again for their support.
