Since two days ago, I've been having these random crashes, a kind that I've never seen before. It happens every two or three hours. At a random time while doing nothing in particular, the computer will suddenly freeze, drop to a black screen, then my monitor will shut off. To fix it, I have to pop the battery on the motherboard, to reset the BIOS. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it.. swapped out memory and parts one by one, updated the BIOS, reinstalled my drivers for everything, even threw a fan in front of it in case of overheating. I've basically done everything short of reformatting the hard drives, which I don't even know if that will work, and if it can be helped, I'd prefer not to do that. System specs.. Windows XP Pro with SP2, 768 MB of PC3200 DDR RAM, ATi RADEON 9600xt video card, Audigy platinum sound card, 350 watt power supply, and an AMD XP 2400+ processor, with a gigabyte GA-7DXR motherboard. I've never had this problem up until two days ago, when it just happened out of the blue, any help would be appreciated.
check the can shaped objects on your motherboard which are capacitors, they are supposed to be flat topped not domed. try another psu. do have or can borrow a hd to load xp on to see if software problem or hardware problem.
