Hi all; I've been converting avi's to dvd for a while now using Nero Vision Express, it's ok, i guess, but seems to be awfully slow. 2 hours of movie seems to take about 5-6 hours on my pc, which is a sthlon xp 1500, with a gig of ram. I'm wondering what alternatives to NeroVision there are and how they compare. Cheers, Kali
hi there, there are many alternatives, but i think you problem may lie in how long nero vision seems to be taking to encode and burn!! that's an awfully long time, maybe you should sort this out??? anyway, a good alternative and one i use quite often is "convertXtoDVD" obviously there is a fee for this program, and basically you have to be willing to pay a fee for a good program here's the link: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ another program is (although encoding only -will not burn the encoded files after the coversion) here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/tmpgenc.cfm another great program in my opinion, hope that helps
Hi, Kalisto Have to agree with Falango. On average Nero Vision takes about 2-3 hours on my laptop which has about the same specs as yours. Are you using the most bug free version? I think its 7.0.8.2b, you can download this from file hippo.com. Make sure you use the Nero Clean tools to remove the old version of NeroVision and then install the new one. For other software, again I agree with Falango. ConvertXtoDVD is decent software. Not sure if the the encoding engine is better than Nero Vision, but I cant imagine its any worse. Nero Vision is pants to be honest with you, the converted MPEG quality is much better with TMPG Xpress, although it takes a lot longer. Once you have converted the MPEG with TMPG Xpress, you can then use TMPG dvd author to create your video_ts/audio_ts folders. Always use Nero Burning Rom where possible to burn to DVD.
Hi thanks for the information, I'm using Nero Vision 4, that came with my copy of Nero Ultra 7. As far as I know it is the lastest stable, according to NeroAG's Site. Perhaps there are some tweaks I can utilize for Nero...2-3 hours would be fine with me....5-6 no. Cheers, Kali
yeah 2/3 hours is quite an 'average' time for nero vision express, cant actually understand why its taking 5-6? and i agree with goddolah: nero in my opinion is not a very good encoder at all, the outcome file size is much higher than needed and at a very low quality compared to others such as CovertXtoDVD, i find it is the cheapest for the quality it does. it has everything nero vision express has but encodes and burns quicker, although menu alterations is a little basic but we are all eagerly waiting for the next update!! if you have any questions feel free to ask
I agree with you guys- Nero Vision Express takes WAY too long. I encode my files in TMPGEnc, but if i want to make menus and chapters, I have to use vision express. And it takes a ridiculous amount of time. Anyone use an alternative that is just as good, but quicker?
hi A5hX, yes i use ConvertXtoDVD, you can make menus as you can with Vision express, but a little less advanced. download the trial and see for yourself -im sure you wont be disapointed
