Am i a victim of progressive scan???

I just recently purchased a westinghouse LVM-37w1 and I am having a hard time getting movies to look good.

I just downloaded the wondows 1080p movies and it looks like crap.

I am getting a very grainy bright picture when viewing these videos. No matter what video seetings I choose (on the monitor) I can't make it look good. So I think it may be overscanning!

How can I get my computer/monitor to play these high def video poperly?

I have all the necessary hardware
    6800gt
    2gig ram
    amd64 3500+
    hdtv lcd screen 1920x1080p

Do you have the proper codecs installed? Don't forget wmv is a windows super compressed video format. It's not made to be viewed at high resolutions. It's made to be viewed exactly as you see it.

I believe I have the proper codecs installed. But wmv is not the only thing that looks like this. DVD's look like this as well. I did a system scan and it says that I exceed the requirements I need to play these 1080p downloads. But everything is way too bright. Even if I adjust the brightness down to 0 on the TV menu the picture looks messed up. This led me to believe it was an overscan problem. Like I said DVD movies appear bad as well, however when I play games the graphics are pretty much flawless. No issues with it being overbright and very grainy.

I am connected by the DVI cable and my resolution is set to 1920x1080.

    Thanks
