I'm just starting a search for a portable (non-IDE card) video converter and perhaps someone here can help me get a handle on these things. I understand that FireWire is a faster link than USB 2.0, but it seems that any video capture device with FireWire uses it for input of digital video, and then squirts stuff out through the slower USB 2.0 link to the computer, with lots of compression. Is there an analog-in (with possible TV tuner, but that's just an extra at this point) unit that does its A?D convesrion and sends it back to the comuter via FireWire? I assume that would take less compression because of the IEEE-1394's wider bandwidth. An help would be appreciated.
Check the CANOPUS ADVC110 VIDEO CONVERTER www.canopus.com or check www.pinnaclesys.com, there are some video capture cards with tv tuner. Cheers...
