This is becoming very, very annoying.

The animated GIFs that you find on public forums (laughing/smiling smileys), science pages, or even accuweather.com, are no longer working for me.

The best example I can provide is accuweather.com. Just put in your zip code and then it'll bring you to a radar. Click animate. You should then see the clouds or rain scrolling across the screen. Yeah, that doesn't happen anymore for me.

On other forums, since this one doesn't have it, any sort of active/animated smiley face is no longer animated.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled IE and Firefox. It doesn't do jack. I've done the Tools > Internet Options > Adanced > Multimedia and checked Play Animations in Web Pages. That doesn't do anything.

I'm up to date with all the Java, Flash, and macromedia. I've searched this website and Google and nothing provides sufficient help.

I'm sure some of you have come across this so can ya please help? Thanks.

I take it you've tried cleaning out the temp folders? This also includes Windows\Temp folder.

Also...clear the cache in Firefox as well as deleting all the cookies. Do this for IE as well.

Another thing you might want to test, is to download and install the Opera browser....see if that browser is having the same issues.

Yeah, I've done that. In fact, I even reset IE. Still nothing. I also did Opera. Nothing :(

Cache, temp files, history, everything, reset took care of that. Nada.

What happens when you download a gif file and run it from your desktop?

I tried downloading a laughing smiley icon (found on most forums) and it was frozen, as it appears online.

This is quite frustrating. I've tried googling a remedy and none of them work. This is also annoying to my friend too because she's a teacher and she needs these animated GIFs as she prepares lessons and stuff.

Is that computer running the Zone Alarm firewall?

I didn't mention it before, but from one Senior Member to another, thanks for your efforts!

And yeah, I am running Zone Alarm. I tried fiddling with it but it really didn't do much. Maybe you know more about it than me? If it means anything, I've always had ZA, even when the GIFs were still animated.

Hey, hey, good karma for you! That solved it. For those who are interested, it is Zone Alarm. Under privacy and then options, ZA was blocking animation. Why? I have no idea. The default options allow all of that but for some reason, it was checked off.

Thanks a mill, Morph! I already told my friend about it and she's happy as can be. I told her about this site and she was grateful.

I must say thank you also, Morph416. Was keeping my eye on this thread because I was having same troubles. Can't believe it was that simple. :)

    Thanks a lot!

No problem. All I did was a bit of searching, props go to those that use that firewall and know about the security feature, from that forum.

Glad to hear it all worked out.
