Hi All I have been doing animation on my PC now for a year (im using a AMD Athlon xp2600 with 512 Ram and a bog standard graphics card) Im looking to build a base unit to go along side my 21" monitor exclusively for animation and video editing but am just swamped by the amount of various sizes out there - can anyone advice me on what to go for to build the complete unit as my budget is around £600 - im keeping my old desktop for everything else , so primarily its for the animation/video applications - thanks in advance.

That's certainly a good list. However, you'd see better cooling for a quad core high performance PC using a case like this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=644041 , and this is a cheaper but faster graphics card: http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=752310 That sums a bit over £600.
thanks guys gonna look into these - what about a sound card ? im looking to create my own music to go along with my animation - is that part of that package and im missing something ? cheers Brian
Onboard sound for the playback of music is fine. If you want to create your own music professionally, then a proper sound card is in order. That depends how serious you take it really. If you use expensive big name software to create professional grade results, you'll want a decent card, but for most mainstream work you can achieve similar results with a basic card like this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/98938
