Actually, not sure if it's a monitor problem, but it's definitely a display problem. Sometimes lately when I've been using my computer the monitor just goes into sleep mode like the computer is not outputting anything to it, yet the computer is still working. I can hear it because I can still play music, given that the Zune software I use is still on. So I don't know what's causing it, but basically my computer just fades to black. It's annoying.
try switching monitors to see what happens as did that with a customer which was doing basically same thing & ended up replacing it.
Well, since my computer is pretty old I don't think I can still replace it. It's a HP Pavillion a6177c TV PC.
Sweet. The thing is, I really don't know if it's a problem with either the computer or the monitor. When the monitor goes black, I can turn on the Xbox (connected via VGA, computer is connected to same monitor via DVI-D) and it works. It just doesn't work with the computer. HOWEVER, the computer itself still works, because if my music player is running I can press play on my keyboard and it starts up the music. It just stops outputting.
onboard video or seperate videocard as what you describe is a videcard problem? Ok, me and my dad thought, and we came to a conclusion it's either: The monitor The Power Supply Or the Graphics Card (Gefore 713something LE, not a motherboard onboard one) I'm building towards the last two as my Xbox 360 still works fine with my monitor. It could be either that the Graphics card for some reason stops outputting to the monitor or that there is not enough power or something. I don't know. I didn't have power supply issues ever. This issue is so annoying yet so random. It came out of nowhere.
I'm not sure. There's a VGA connection on my motherboard and DVI-D on my graphics card. Earlier today my dad and I took apart the computer and cleaned it. It seems to be working better now but I'll keep you guys updated.
It still broke down after that Later that day, one my mom's friends who works with computers used LogMeIn Rescue on my comp. After some looking around he suggested that the new LogMeIn update might be the cause. It sounded logical because it happened recently (like my computer problems) and LogMeIn installs another display adapter to my comp which might be conflicting with my video card. Who knows. The computer still gave my problems this morning. Even though we removed the driver and LogMeIn, it still went to sleep. HOWEVER, it woke up
More updates. The computer went to sleep AGAIN this morning, then I had to go to school. Anyway, I asked my computer teacher and he said it's either: I need to update my drivers for graphics card (going to do that now) Mobo has problems Graphics card has problems I wouldn't mind buying a new graphics card, given that it would solve the problem. I was never too fond of mine anyway. Also, LogMeIn (which I have not erased in contrary to what I thought) has become a useful tool to look at my computer frmo another when it shuts down. HOWEVER, I don't get how the computer just stops inputting to the screen yet I can see it fine when I use LogMeIn. Maybe it's my drivers...
what is your screensaver time set at? change your screensaver to something else to see if that works or not.
It's set to 5 minutes. I turned it off though. I set my Windows Vista to Basic as well, and turned off the wallpaper. Anyway, I'm using Windows Update to download some update for the same monitor I'm using. Hopefully it'll solve the problem. I can't find any drivers for my graphics card. I looked at Nvidia's official site, but sadly, even they can't provide me with legit driver downloads. It makes me pay for this stupid Driver Robot program. Sad that I can't even get legit updates from the official website.
