For some time now I have been annoyed by a Security Alert that pops up each time I manually turn off my norton antivirus and internet security in Norton 2003 to free up resources for digital video editing. This alert tells me what I already know, that these systems have been turned off, and then advises me that my system is at risk. It won't go away and keeps popping up every 15 seconds after acknowledging it. The cure to this stupid annoyance Symantec have kindly created is to go to C:/Program Files/Common Files/Symantec Shared/Security Centre. In that folder there should be three yellow circles with a squiggly line in each, and named SymWSC, SymWSCNo and UsrPrmpt respectively. Create a Temp Folder in Program Files and move these three files to that Temp Folder. PROBLEM SOLVED.
i use virtual desktops and transport the nag screen to a different desktop without aknowledging and i am not bothered again...
Certainly wish I knew that a couple of months ago but having joined AD I got rid of Norton's and now use AVG, Zonealarm, Ewido, ccleaner & Ad-Aware. Norton's Internet security is one of the most annoying programs I know, not that Zone Alarm can't be, but it's far easier to disable and configure. For the bloatware & cost of Norton's System Works both 2003 & 2005 are, they certainly are not as good as what I'm now using.
