all these posts about mpt problems have me a little skittish... i just got a V3 , can i obtain a mpt disc (or download the program from the motorola site) install it , live update it , and get it to work WITHOUT having a usb cable , via bluetooth (my laptop has bluetooth) ? i want to use it w/ bluetooth and not a cable... is there a place to download it OTHER than the motorola site ? and will it be compatible w/ bluetooth ? basically - what is the best way to get/install mpt w/ bluetooth and a V3 ? finally , could someone either give me instructions , or direct me to a thread that will give directions.... thanks in advance , this is a great forum... -bill kelley
I downloaded the light version and set it up with bluetooth and then later got the full version and used only bluetooth to install it. The light version and some of the newer full versions of MPT do not show a pic of the Razr for the interface (although it doesn't matter, works with the generic and most of the other choices). I didn't have any problems at all. Actually, you don't need the program for pictures, music and videos if you have bluetooth: If you know how to pair your phone to your PC, do that, then all you have to do is open "My Bluetooth Places," then "View Devices in Range," then double click on "Motorola Phone," then double-click on "OBEX File Transfer on Motorola Phone." That will open up the folders on the phone for audio, video and picture. You can drag and drop to those folders. You can also delete anything that isn't locked on your phone. If you want to delete locked items, you need the USB cable and another program (best I've found is P2K Tools available at motomodders.net). I don't have built-in bluetooth on my PC, I use a bluetooth adapter. MPT is nice for cropping pictures and changing file size to fit on the Razr. I think it sucks for music though - I like to use a trial version of Power MP3 Cutter (google it) for music because the trial version allows you to cut 30 seconds out of a song and change the bitrate. If you want to sync Outlook to your phonebook, you need the full version of MPT, and it does a great job with that. There are posts all over this board with the location of the full version of MPT. I don't want to repost them because it's warez.
I should add this... This thread has a link to the program in the first post: ***** HOW TO INSTALL MOBILE PHONE TOOLS***** and this thread has some helpful information: ***Guide*** - Make your V3 Razr work with Mobile phone tools (MPT)3.11 and Windows XP! (other phones too) They're on page 2 of this forum as of this date/time
LJ gives good advice. I believe she's wise beyond her years. As far as step by step MPT install, there are threads at the top of this forum that will do exactly that. If u have a RAZR tho and ever want to enable the video on it, you'll need a Mini USB cable...they're super cheap and can be found at any computer store e.g. CompUsa I've heard u can also use a regular USB cable to connect the RAZR, but I haven't tested it...I have used bluetooth and am somewhat soured...maybe it's just my dongle is bad...hmm that didn't sound right. Even if u don't mod anything else, the video option is cool, cuz you can record video for about 1.5 minutes with sound.
Awe, you're sweet - maybe it should be in spite of my years lol I was lucky because video recording was already enabled on mine, but I had to learn seem editing to lengthen the time allowed and to enable java to install new games (but I'm still only playing Solitaire and Bejeweled). P2K Tools is my new favorite no-brain-needed app, it let me delete that stupid Motorola video and those SMS picture messages. I refuse to say the word dongle - what brand do you have? Mine is a Belkin.
My dongle is some hunk of junk by IVT technologies...the dongle itself isn't the problem, it's those Blue Soleil drivers that come with it. No worries, I used bluetooth only for the integrated voice calling system in my car now...all data for me goes thru cable.
