my comp is turning off without warning. when it starts back up it will try and auto load norton internet security. it will then close norton and shut off again. now when i start it up it doesnt even get passed the windows loading screen or wont go into safe mode. please help!
do you have a floppy drive & a win9x boot disk to fdisk & partition the drive. also could take the drive out of that computer & slave it in another to virus/spyware scan the drive & redo the partition if you want to.
What does it do when you say it won't boot from disk? Like to you mean a message comes up saying that isn't not recognized or whatever or does it just load up that same way. If if loads up the same way with or without the disk you will have to alter you boot order. This means you would have to get into your bios.
ok, when i boot it asks me which os to use, obviously i use windows xp, the other option is windows 2000 which is the one i installed win xp over. Then it goes straight to the windows startup screen. when i get into windows an error message comes up that says sysaudio.sys is not somethingsomething. it crashes when in safemode too.
One reason it may be cutting off and on is the [bold]POWER SUPPLY[/bold] going bad or [bold]HEAT[[/bold]. Especially if you're not getting any type of warning. Sound like everytime you reach that peak temp, it restarts. Make sure all your fans are working. Power supply fans included. On another note...installing one O/S on top of another isn't the best way to upgrade your PC. Personally I feel you should've done a fresh install, deleting the existing parting with Win2000 and adding WinXP. No I don't think thats a part of your problem but you may want to think about backtracking the way you did it.
ok now i installed win 2000 on a new hard drive partition. it gets to the part where it loads the os then freezes...
removes oxidation off the gold so can make better contact with the ram socket. do you have a spare drive or borrow a drive to see if can load a fresh install windows to see if it is a hardware problem or software.
would it be a bad idea to take the attatchment from the vacuum and vacuum all the dust out of those ram sockets?
Suction hose from a vacuum huh? Does that really work? Man, I almost can't wait till it's time to clean out my PCs again.
just watch what you vaccum as could pull off jumpers off the motherboard. also there is static electricity generated when the air is going thru the plastic nozzle!
lol, yeah, im not so sure that is the way to go, i always seem to get the bad end of the deal when it comes to risky situations. my motherboard is comming today so i hope that will solve whatever problem i was having. ill post back. if u guys can come up with any new ideas i am still going to use my motherboard for my bros comp so we'll see what happens.
