Great forum! I just bought a Panosonic DMR-ES40R, DVD recorder. The main reason was to transfer old home vhs tapes to disc. I would love to know what the best disc would be for this, and can I play the disc on my PC. I have a dvd-rom drive and a Maddog MD16XDVD9A2, DVD RW. Isn't there one disc that is capable of being written to, on the recorder, then played on a PC, without all kinds of converting? Any help appriciated.

Hi, I own a Pansonic Dmr_HS2, and you can only use the DVD-R disks,
or the DVD-Ram disks, they will play on anything, be sure to close disk after you are done recording to it."IMPORTANT", otherwise it will play on nothing else except the Panasonic. Have Fun, I have.

yeah any dvd -r should work but avoid the cheap ones get some sonys or verbatim. I bought a 100pack of dvd's for 25$ and the quality is horrible and it skips and loops (Def not worth the 25). I waited for the next sale on the Sonys 4.7gb 16x and bought them, bestbuy is having a sale now. 50 DVD -r OR DVD +R for 15$ Also Verbatim is having a sale too 25 Dvd -r for 9$ @ Bestbuy

Thanks for the info, I already found that the -RW work on both, after finalizing. I bought a pack of 10 Sony, with cases, on sale at staples.
