Zoom player is a new one on me. I downloaded their demo and it is, of course, constantly bugging me to buy it but I want to know why.

I'd need a good reason. I recently had a movie file wouldn't play until I downloaded the latest windows media player and then wmp played it okay. And so did zoom.

Point being that zoom depended upon wmp, it looks like.

If anyone has anything to say about the relative merits of zoom I'd like to hear it.

I should add that I'm looking for the media player of choice. I don't like wmp and would like to avoid it.

    Why?

Maybe for no good reason. It goes back to the days when if you used it you'd get your files 'branded' and you couldn't use them on another machine. That doesn't happen nowadays, does it? I don't think so.

But back then when it happened to me I was shocked to the core.

And since then Microsoft's propensity for sending messages back to itself from all its software disturbs me.

And Microsoft's well known security flaws here and there disturb me.

So I try to avoid Microsoft products if I can - at the same time as I recognise the immense (correct word) contribution they've made and are still making to computing.

My contribution, in return, back to them, is to give honest feedback about which direction I want to go. And that direction is away from 'talkback' progs and away from insecure progs. :)

    regards,

    ab
