For Christmas I got the DVP-NS7OH. It has the ability to upscale to 780p/1080i. Thats fine and all but the only to do this though HDMI which is funny because the present I unforunately got the year before, 55 in. Sony HDTV. It lacks a HDMI port. Why people keep on getting me these crappy-ass Sony products is beyond me(PS2 sucks a big one two). Is there any way i can get this thing to upscale though the component cables I have.
As far as I'm aware there isn't, do what I did-get either an LDA-511 or an LGDVB418, there is a hack that works for both that is applied with the remote that enables upscaleing through componet to either 720P or 1080I. Check the LDA-511 threads here for info.
Do a google for, "HDMI to component converters, or adapters," might have to play with the wording. They are adding new stuff everyday.
I hope so-it's really stupid to screw people who purchased hdtvs 1 or 2 years ago and "only have componet inputs".
Thanks for the help guys just solved the problem by buying a Buffalo Link LinkTheater. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16882139001&ATT=82-139-001&CMP=OTC-C173T This thing is a beast will play anything even HD stuff. I literally took a baseball to my sony dvd player and never felt better, to hell with sony Im never buying their crap again.
