I have a Hitachi GDR-3120l drive with FW: 0078FK. I flashed it about 6 months ago and it was working just fine until yesterday. Suddenly when i insert a game in the drive backup or not, i get the same message. "To play this disk, insert it in an XBox360 console". I tried to play a dvd which contained an avi file and it was working perfectly. Any ideas?

laser could be going out. or really dirty possibly. I have never had to do it but some people talk about adjusting the laser to be stronger.. a pot tweak i think. But i wouldnt dive into that just yet. see what some of the others think

i'd have to agree, sounds like a laser. pot tweaking is a bit of a hassle since the slightest adjustment changes the ohmic value alot.if you decide to tweak, you will need an ohm meter and a ridiculously small flat-head screwdriver. if you dont have those just buy a new laser on ebay for 10 bucks.

it would be more cost effective to buy a new laser and instlal it. its not that complicated actually. and its 10 bucks instead of 30 to 50. if you do buy a new drive. keep the old one, you would be suprised how often a tray stops opeing. having a spare workin case for it would be nice.
