Any insight ripping a DVD of cartoons (and bonus features) to individual files for use on PC?

All right, I just joined afterdawn because you guys obviously know what you are talking about. I have been searching the internet for months for a solution to this problem. I already feel like an idiot because obviously, a solution exists. I just can't seem to find it anywhere. I don't mind being scolded for this, btw. I just need to know where to turn.

I own all six volumes of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection and intend to pick up the two new Looney Tunes Super Stars discs scheduled for release in April 2010.

    I love cartoons.

I hate changing discs and dealing with the programming entity’s idea of continuity and want to be able to select a playlist from across the series and shuffle it on Saturday morning for nostalgic reasons.

What steps must I take—what apps must I use—to obtain high quality video files from my own collection for random access on my own machine? Space is not an issue...

Any help will truly be appreciated. And I promise to post my feedback at the journey's end.

If space is not an issue, and you want to have best quality and keep the extras, then just rip the discs into an ISO. You can use DVDFab, free.
You'll have one single file, an image of the original disc. VLC player will open that with no problems. Then you can load all your ISO files in VLC's playlist and have fun.

rip your dvd to ISO then use fairuse wizard lite to convert them to AVI.
Use the x264 codec 2-pass mode for the best quality. The x264 codec works great with cartoons and will give you excellent quality.

Everything is absolutely true, except cannot keep the extras in the same file...

Thanks for the insight, guys. I finally got to try fairuse wizard light last night and thought that I was in the clear, but this morning I awoke to the following error message:

LPCM/MPA audio tracks can’t be stored as AC3…

Or something like that. Is there a setting that I need to change in the options?
