basically i have a bunch of xvid/divx movies and i wanna convert them for use on a portable video player which supports both formats. I want to demux them from their current resolution to 320 x 240 and to 128Kbps Mp3 This is the screens native resolution and it'll save more on battery life. Is there any preferably free ware programs that will just batch re encode them without having to split the video and audio into separate parts and then encoding again? Thanks for your help & time guys
Remuxing won't help. For batch re-encoding you could use mencoder. Use Xvid or lavc mpeg-4 for the video and lame for the audio. Could also use -oac copy for the audio since it is probably already mp3 and close enough to 128k. -vf scale=320:-2 should scale to 320x??? keeping the original AR, so 4:3 would be 320:240 whilst you would get 320:178 for 16:9. You could use expand if you really need 320x240 (i.e. the player stretches video to fullscreen ruining AR).
