I just picked up a used Px-716a from Ebay. I always wanted to try out the cadillac of all DVD drives, LOL. It's very quiet and smooth. I swapped out my original-and still working perfect-Benq 1620 that's in my backup athlon 3000+ machine.
3500+ backups off that 1620 drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It came with an older version of plextools v2.17 and the firmware version of 1.01. I got the 1.10 fw loaded in a folder to transfer over to my backup pc.

2 test burns on that plextor and looks pretty good. Both backups booktyped to dvd-rom. I'm seeing how she rips right now,but going along ok.

Any certain fw versions that I may want to dl instead?
Any other info that a virgin plextor user may wanna know?

    Thanx!!

Great drive you have there saugmon! As for your questions...

I don't think firmware matters on the Plextor, regarding burning quality etc like it does on BenQ's...
However, as I am sure you don't need to know ;), it's best to have the latest one...

I don't own a plextor, as much as i would like to, but there isn't anything special that you need to know about this drive. Just treat it like you would any other drive..

However that is my opinion :)

Hope I could be of some help.

I'm trying to figure out that older version of plextools. She is booktyping and gives me the option to burn at 6x,whereas all my benqs wouldn't burn that speed.

Hmm, some drives do burn at 6x. Mine doesn't; but some do.
I suppose you could just update plextools, if it doesn't allow higher speeds than that.

    Hello Saugmon,
I guess its too early to ask you this but how does the PX- 716 compare to all the Benq drives you have?? I got one this week too and have some high hope for it too.

well, do you h appened to know which media work well with the plexy??
I will bet the TY's. Since they helped to create that autostrategy thing. It should work better with the -R right??

Yujneh: I got this plexy booktyping,so the plus format should be superior on it. I've burned MCC-004 at 8x,Ty-G03 at 8x, Fuji-Prodisc at 4x and it'll burn everything-just like my q's.

redice: I'll have to give aabbccdd a pm here one of these days. I know Neph has 1 of these drives, but don't see too much of him around lateley.
