first off, some system specs would help. you got all the crap taken out? like what? virii? adware? so you took all that off, but your system is still slowing down?

Painting "go faster" stripes down the side of your case will help :p

Zig zags work better.. To tell ya the truth... if it is not something serious, I think every system slows down when u install more and more stuff and with more and more use... Some processors kannot multitask efficiently as well... So speks would help...

you could try running with it!

Seriously though you could run msconfig - START>RUN> and type 'msconfig'. Here you can alter the programs that are running at startup or running in the background of the machine.

You dont say what OS you have if its XP get something easy to use like BoostXP and get rid of all the invalid registery enteries and generally tidy the pc up.

You may then want to look into overclocking but take care as you can permanently damage your hardware.

And if all that dosen't work shell out some cash and upgrade.
