Hi I'm New To The Phenomenal Series That Is Guild Wars.. I Recieved A 10 Day Trial With PCFormat 2 Months Ago & After Playing It For About $ Hours, I Went & Bought Guild Wars Prophecies(Special Edition) & Factions(Standard Edition) With Both Guide Books. Anyway, I'll Get To The Point. Can Someone Give Me Some Hints Or Tips On The First Things I Should Do When I First Start The Game? I Haven't Started These Games Yet, As I Want To Get As Much Hints Etc Before I Dive In.. Also, Do Patches Or Mods Exist For These Games? I've Noticed On A Few Sites That There Are Mods & Patches Available For Warcraft & They Are Both Sort Of The Same Game. But Have Never Seen Any For Guild Wars.. Any Help Is Appreciated. Thanks

There are no patches and very few mods for Guild Wars. Also the mods are strongly discouraged by ArenaNet. As for tips, get in a good guild to help you out because Nightfall is coming out soon and everyone is going to be there for a month or two and it will be hard to get a group.

ok thanks. how can i tell if a guild is any good? i got a 10 day trial from pcformat magazine about 2 months ago & after a couple of hours of helping people do quests i was asked a couple of times to join peoples guilds...if i was to join a guild & was approached say a few months down the line to join a better guild, could i just leave & join the other guild? what are the first things i should be looking to do when i start the games.. i know i should get 100 gold coins so i can join a guild, but whats the best way of doing this without doing the quests? i want to be well ready before i start on the quests.. thanks

It costs you nothing to join a guild, the person inviting you has to pay the fee. If they try to make you pay then it isnt a good guild and yes you can leave any time you want to join a different one. Also you want to do all the quests because that is how you get the most experience to level up. As to getting gold just go and kill things and sell everything that drops.

ok thanks.. do you think the person who told me i needed 100 gold coins to join was trying to con me then? maybe he wanted the gold to open his own guild.. what is a decent weapon to aim for? i had a blue staff that fired fire from a distance & it was ok, but urely i can find a better weapon early on in the game.. i got to level 8 with the 10 hour trial, is that ok?
    thanks

The cost is 100 gold to invite someone into your guild.
This fee should be paid by the inviter not the invited.
Also to purchase a guild cost 2 platinum (2000 gold).
If someone invites you to join there guild,
They should pay the fee simple as that.

Good luck hope to see you on GW.
