    Hi,
Does anyone have a Magic 3.1 installed on a US (NTSC) version 1 PS2. I heard its a pain to install and that the success rate is only 50/50 when dealing with older systems. Any help/feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Let me give you my gory details. I installed a Magic 3.1 in my PS2(v7) and it was great. All the websites had all the answers/diagrams and life was swell.

Right now I'm installing a Magic 3.1 in a friends PS2(v2)(close enough to v1). We are having one hell of a time installing that damn thing. First off his "s" wire does not match any diagram on the web and the directions on all the websites are lame. They are like, "open the bottom cover and your done." What they don't tell you is that you have to de-solder the small board and pull the whole thing apart just for 1 wire. With both me and my friend working I won't be able to tell you how the job came out till this weekend. Don't know if this makes you feel any better.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I dont know if that made me feel any better, let me know how it goes, Im still debating if I should just trade my old PS2 in and get a used PS2 version 7 for like 80 bucks or something. Thanks again

The thing i've heard about V1 boards is that the s point (The one used only for playing backup ps1 games) is in the middle layer of the board.
So you have to cut something, i don't know, thats what i've heard.

Dont get a V7, get a V5 its the best and easiest PS2 to work with. Although if you are going to get a chip that works on any PS2, then get the V4,5, or 7.

Looks like the PS2 v2 install did not work(yet). All we get is a black screen. I'm going to post a thread of my own to get some help. Feel free to read my pain.

it is possible to access the S point without desoldering or cutting, you can just move that metal plate over enough to get access to it, but the diagrams on the net aren't the same!! i have a v1 mobo with a U0 serial num!!

After all the problems, I got the PS2 to work with the Magic 3.1. All backups etc work fine. The black screen was caused by a solder short on the quad chip. The only problem now is that there is a grey box around the "Playstation 2" splash screen when games load, which does not affect gameplay.

How did you finally get the v1 to work? And where did you find the 'S' point? I'm having problems finding that on my v1 as well and am not even sure if that's needed. Any advice or suggestion would be awesome!
