Can anyone please tell me if they have heard of "worm code copy protection" on a DVD.
This DVD was recently bought through paypal off a website, however, it states on the box and on a label stuck onto the sealed box:-
"WORMCODE(r) This DVD videogramme contains a unique tracer code which will be transfered to all illegal copies - even on VHS. Pirate copies of this videogramme are encoded with your name and financial details"
Also it says on the box:-
"WORMCODE: Your name and I.P. address of your computer shall be automatically recorded onto any illegal copies of this videogramme"

I hope someone can help me with this
    Thank you

I never heard of this as you stated. Every search I did comes up with the info that its a virus. I don't really think they would place a virus on a legal dvd game. I'm assuming your game is the original copy not a burned version. My gut feeling on this is its just a ploy to keep you from making copies. I would open the dvd in one of the copy programs that will allow you to look at the files and edit them if necessary. If you see something that doesn't look right remove it. Sorry I can't be of more help but thats a new one on me.

So, I'm assuming, the only way for the sellers/vendors can do this is once you buy the product/dvd, they will encode all your financial info (which they obtained once you agreed to purchase the item) onto the dvd. Forget about the "possible threat" of Piracy, they've already committed the first crime by disseminating your private information. What if the dvd gets lost/stolen during delivery, or just plain lost while in your possession? Will they be responsible should your information be used for illegal purposes?

I think Jerry is right, it's just a ploy. And if it isn't, I seriously doubt that company will be in business for long.

    Just my 2 cents...

Yea, thats like saying they are selling dvds with SPYWARE built in. I doubt its true but if it is they won't be around long as Konfused1 stated.

Thanks a lot for that, I did think the same as you at first, just a precautionary measure to try to prevent copying. I will check the disk out now.
    Thanks again
