Hi ringofire, To answer your question (cause that's what we do, . . . . . It doesn't not appear so. The following drives are capable of changing book types: Ben Q LG Lite-On Nec Nu Tec Plextor and Ricoh It lQQks like you struck out on this one BUT not to worry, Having a DVD burned to a DVD-ROM is only helpful to older players. The older the player, the more picky it was. As players older than a 1 1/2 years begin to have difficulty playing discs, more pple will be buying the newer, cheaper players that will play a small Cheese and Pepperoni pizza if the cheese isn't too thick (Lol).
@scubapete Was peeking throught the forum and quick question if I may sir...how do I use my nu tech EDW-042 to booktype a dvd+r? Thanks in advance as there is an abundance of verbs dvd+r media on the shelves and I would like to try a few.
Hi there matt72, Most of the times, your software will allow you to change Book types. FYI, when using DVDD, Go to "Tools" ~ Drive ~ Change Book Types and have at it When using Nero, The "Book Type" setting can be controlled from the "OPTIONS" window for the recorder. In Nero Express ~> this is located at the very end in the "Final burn" window, where you will see the "Options" button located next to the drop-down box where you select your model recorder. In Nero Burning ROM this is located under Recorder ~> Choose the Recoder window and the OPTIONS button located there. Nero should have it set to: "High Compatibility mode", (DVD-ROM) by default. If not, set it by "ticking" the box in Nero's Options to Change the Book Type to DVD-ROM. There are some discs, sorry I don't have a list, that cannot be changed. It will have to be a trial and error thing on your part to find those acceptable discs BUT your best bet would be those discs we recommend. That would include the RiData, Verbatim DataLife, RICOH, TY's OR Ritek GO4's. Personally, I use +R media and have had no problem changing Book Types at all. Let me know what media you have that works and what media you try that won't. Enjoy, Pete
Thanks scubapete I personally have not had the pleasure of using dvd+r but saw alot of folks use them in AD. I wanted to know for 2 reasons..1 they are cheaper in some places than -r and my mom went out and bought a 100 verbatims +r and now thinks she is the backup queen. Didn't want to bust her bubble so thought i would ask since the topic was already somewhat discussed. Thanks will print this and give to my mother and go out and buy a 25pk to start off. As you can see I got your link for burning in my signature very good reference and easy to read. Once again thanks.
Scuba but I think that DVD+R DL is not detected by even newer drives because this is relatively new media, so by booktyping to DVD-ROM your assuring that DVD+R DL media will play in almost every DVD Player I read in many reviews that DVD+R DL with no booktype as DVD-ROM had lots of compatibility issues with DVD players and DVD-ROM drives so I think in terms of DVD+R DL booktyping is very important, about Booktyping DVD+R as you stated this is only needed with older drives. Ps: Ive not tried yet to burn a +R DL without booktype due to the fear that it may be incompatible with my standalone.
My first attempt would only play in one of the 3 players we have. The 2nd plays in all. I think the prob with the first is that i accidentally burned at 5X when it was supposed to be at 2.4X I dont know why that would make a difference but it seems to have in one of my stand alone players.
Hey there matt72, Hey, hey, I know it hurts BUT it seems that Mom is once again right. She is indeed using top flight discs and she would be my queen too. I do so love my Verbatim +R discs Tell Mom, ScubaPete says, she done good @ringofire, As long as you continue to burn at too fast a speed, you will be burned. I will tell you what I'm sure you've seen 100's and 100's of times ~ Burn all DVD's at 4X no matter what unless you want coasters. Iffin you want to burn faster, don't post complaints and ask for answers. It holds the same with burning, encoding and multi-tasking - if you wish to do it, go to it BUT do not come here and complain when your discs come out dead. Those tasks are resource intensive and require the maximum from your processor and all of your available RAM. You steal from them, they will bite back sometimes. You break the rules, you will pay. Of course you won't pay all the time - no one ever said you would BUT we are telling you ~ you will have errors. DL, Burn at 2.4X. All else, 4X. If you are burning data files or text files, burn at 16X, N/P that what those speeds are for ~ You have been told again, do whatever you want BUT again, don't complain that you're paying the price. Cheers, Pete
