Now, I'm not huge on PC gaming (I'm actually quite the PC noob), but there are a few titles out that I would like to play--Fallout 3, Crysis, etc. However, I'm mainly looking into a gaming PC for one reason: Diablo III. Of course, no one knows the requirements yet, but it is assumed it will be easy on hardware as it is made by Blizzard. I'm just curious what a few good builds are that could run the games listed above (excluding Diablo, obviously) on a modest budget--lets say $600-800, including an OK monitor, nothing fancy. While I can almost guarantee someone here will be able to list a nice build for me, I'm also curious how these would be for present and future gamiing: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4238269&CatId=2628 Or... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4166260&CatId=2628 I've been told the second model will play pretty much anything out on High or decent settings, but wanted a few more opinions--and if I can save $100 and get the cheaper model (or use the extra $ toward a monitor), I'd rather do that. Thanks for any help!
there both nice computers but u could save more by building one ur self. i cant pick 1 thats better probly the one with 6gb RAM but its 64 bit and some apps may have trubble running. if u build a ur own PC u can get every feature u want. just my 2cents
https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=10047752 I went over by like $30. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=8079114 Then there's this one which some one posted else where for a $700 gaming rig if you dont want to spent the extra $100.
Thanks for the builds! But, being the noob that I am, which rig is the better overall performer? What games can I run, and at which settings? Basically I'm looking at longevity as well as functionality. Thanks for the quick responses though, very helpful!
Ok, I moved some things around and cut/added in some areas to the list to get the price down, but keep most of the efficiency. How would this build work? https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=9223545&guid=42936704cf01429a8c5b14515661125b I also need help with the OS. I would assume Vista 64bit is the way to go--but where is the cheapest to get it?
You need to make your wishlist public for other people to view it. Currently only your newegg account can access that list.
I'm sorry! Didn't even realize this! Ok, here is the shared list--and also, I want to note that since I knocked nearly $200 off the total, feel free to upgrade some parts to make it more efficient. The HDD is large enough for me, however, so no need to add a larger one: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=9223545
I have it set as "Shared", am I not doing something correctly? EDIT: It is set to public, but I've read that it takes up to 24 hours to actually be visible.
I'm not american so I can't have a newegg account, but I think there's a way of setting it to be public.
While the list should be public within a day or so, I'll post the individual links for components. I still have ~$800 limit, so I can currently go another $200 or so (not completely strict, but trying to keep it low--I feel the GPU and power supply will have to be increased, but let me know). Heres the components: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119115 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128345 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814140095 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139008 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116072 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148335 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176084 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151171
Looks like a good list, but I'd recommend this hard drive instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136218
Ok, I swapped out the HDD for the one you recommended. Any suggestions for a better GPU--and if necessary, other componenets? I'm looking to run pretty much anything out right now as high as possible, and hopefully for a while into the future. EDIT: I was also curious, which GPU would be preferred: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130339 or.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814140098 EDIT2: Ok, I've looked into a second build which may or may not be better--let me know (I also still need a MOBO and CPU, so give some suggestions please!): LG 22X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS30 - OEM ---($25) Antec earthwatts EA500 500W ATX12V v2.0 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Retail ---($70) SUPER TALENT INTAIN1MCR All-in-one Card Reader - Retail ---(13$) G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail ---($45) EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail ----($145) COOLER MASTER Elite 330 RC-330-KKN1-GP Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail ----($35) Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM ----($70) SAMSUNG 933BW High Glossy Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail ----($160)
The HD4850 is a better card, by a significant margin. Better still though, is one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102810
Looks good, thanks for the tip. How about a MOBO and CPU, then I think I'll be just about ready, correct? Also, will the Power Supply I have selected be enough as of now?

Thanks for the MOBO, but the CPU may put me just a bit over my limit. I may still use it, but I'll do some research first.
Well, it's a dual core. Fine for most games, but for the most demanding ones, a Quad will be more futureproof.
