For a few years now I've been using Nero Vision to convert my avi's to disc images. With my PC it takes about 15-20 minutes depending on the files etc. I've not kept abreast of software releases so was just wondering if theres a quicker way of doing it?

The last time I used Nero it took me half the day just to make a couple of DVD's so I know what you mean.Have you checked in the software downloads for something.I use DVDFab myself.

Yeah, I've tried DVDFab and if anything I've found it a little slower than the latest Nero Video. DVDFab is great for blu-ray and HD though.

The other concerning thing is that Nero (and DVDFab) never get anywhere near 100% CPU utilisation which would suggest that even upgrading from my 1366 i7 to a 2011 wouldnt yield much improvement beyond maybe 10% for chip architecture.
