This is a copy and paste from another forum, all credit is given to Wizzyx. A lot of people are confirming that this workaround works. Just passing some info along but I'm waiting for the new firmware so try at your own risk.

The procedure is simple, but has two important requirements: have the dash version 2.0.9199.0 (with another update this method is obsolete, because the KINECT ADVENTURES/ANIMALS updates can not be installed...even with the 12416 beta dash) and LiteOn DVD or BenQ DVD.
The way to avoid the AP25 is (follow the steps one by one, and in order):

    Quote:
For those who still have a dash older than the 9199 (8XXX) here is the update to 9199.

    OFFICIAL MICROSOFT MIRROR (updated 11/23/10)
    http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...update9199.zip
This method ensures that all games run at 100%. From the oldest to the newest, even those with AP 2.5 protection. Tested on a Xbox Fat. Need confirmation if it works well in a Xbox Slim.

    GETTING STARTED

There is an unconfirmed version, this method doesn't work with spoofed drives. According to the user didera, this updates, will disable all functions of the drive.

1-Install update Kinect adventure. Unzip the file UPDATE-KINECT-ADVENTURES.rar, place it on a pendrive formatted in FAT32, place it on the console and turn on.

    MIRROR: (Updated 12/06/10)

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0H3NO3WT
    http://www.fileserve.com/file/GvR4hAU

The new dashboard will be the 2.0.12413.0 with black avatars.

2-Delete the folder from the pendrive, and unzip the second file UPDATE-KINECT-ANIMALS.rar

3-Install update Kinect animals, in the same way as above.

    MIRROR: (Updated 12/06/10)

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q2FUYGRT
    http://www.fileserve.com/file/6EG8bjx

The new dashboard will be the 2.0.12416.0. Still black avatars.

4-Place the DVD of AC: B, will be asked to update. OK, (this update will be changed or something like that, probably a bug or exploit, because you have installed the previous two) and enjoy...

This new dashboard remains 2.0.12416.0, but with some visual differences (purple stripes). With this 3rd update, the avatars are fixed.

If you have Flash 1.6, use activate.iso, without changing the wave (wave 9).

Edit: don't patch the AC: B, or not be able to install the update included in the game.

Edit 2: if you want to upgrade with the NFS: HP game, also works according to the user dbc.
    http://www.xbox360iso.com/showpost.p...&postcount=316

Edit 3: this method didn't flag the console according to the user princepk, after checking it, with the software XVAL. This makes sense, since there is no manipulation of hardware.
    http://www.xbox360iso.com/showpost.p...&postcount=310

Edit 4: not recommended connect to xbox live, until the new firmware LT+ is available. If there is any new update on Live, this could be overridden. Do it at your own risk.

Edit 5: for those wondering, it works even after reboot, or turn off the console. It's not temporary.

Edit 6: Solution for those who need to patch to wave 2/3:

    1. Install Kinect Adventures Update

    2. Install Kinect Animals Update

    3. Install the following update:

    MIRROR
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PPZHG7FY
    or
    http://www.mediafire.com/?kyqqd5mkjfw54de

    4. Play your Wave 2/3 Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

    Credits to Death260

NOTE: The two updates, were extracted from the iso of each game.

    Hi!

So you can go to any drive?
And the other AP 2.5 games will go this way?

I can attest that this works 100%!

    Here's my info rundown

Console bought new last winter with Lite-on drive with LT firmware installed immediatly.
It just so happend that my Dash was 2.0.9199.0 as was needed for this process.
Installed the two stripped updates just as instructed...
Popped in ACB, it prompted for an update, I allowed it, console restarted and it, Fable III and every other backup I threw at it read, booted and played perfect.

Cheers to Bludd for bringing this to our attention....

Oh, just an FYI, the MS link to the firmware seems to be down ;)

I already updated the console from the ACB disk, but the other updates wont work. Anyone recommend anything? How should I put the first two update files on the USB? The X-Box didn't seem to do anything when I plugged the USB stick with the Kinect Adventures update.

Not sure how this is a workaround. It's common sense people. AP2.5 isn't on the old dash so duh it's going to boot any game. Games will only boot on new dash when LT+ releases.

This puts kinect dash from AC:B on your system and allows you to boot the 2.5 games. It is a workaround because if you just put the new dash on you won't be able to play the 2.5 games but if you do it with the steps listed you can supposedly.

The updates need to be installed in order according to the post or it won't work. Since you already have the final step installed before the other two, it won't work.

    ^^^Exactly^^^
After installing the 'Adventures' update (the first one in this tutorial) you will now have the new Kinect dash..installing the 'Animals' update just updates the version of the Kinect dash, as does (presumably) the update from the ACB disk... If you install JUST the update from the ACB disk onto your non-Kinect dash, It instigates the AP2.5 check and will not allow you to play AP2.5 games. Somehow installing these other two updates FIRST prevents the ACB update from installing that part of the update... I'd assume its somthing like when I've done a manual update of my Wii system firmware with a hacked version of the firmware, then having a game disk with that "same" firmware prompt me for an update. The game is gonna prompt you for an update no matter what (its just part of how the disk was programmed to boot) but when it goes to actually install the update, it goes "Oh, well look at this! Kinect dash is already installed! Guess I dont have to install anything myself, i'll just finalize and go forward them!" and moves on, thus leaving you with a new Kinect dash, but no icky check from the ACB disk...
Hopefully that will give you all the information you need to make an INTELLIGABLE reply in this thread going forward, Modking30 ;)

So is there no reversing the process for people who have already applied the update via the AC:B or NFS:HP disks?

I have a Lite-on and had already updated with NFS disk on some apparently bad advice, so I'm on 2.0.12416.0 without the kinect games installed.

    Thanks

^this one is the one I used and it still works for me... give that a shot

@Lellis, as far as I know, unless you have a nand backup from before you updated to the Kinect dash, you SOL :(

I'm tempted to try this but not at risk of being banned and this sounds to me like something that cant be trusted on live to well. waiting to play NFX is killing me tho

Thanks this worked for me much appreciated. Been banned for ages so don't care about live so this is an excellent work around and saves me having to update my firmware.

I had someone flash my drive for me, so I'm not sure of a couple things. Fable 3 works fine for me, but NFS HP does not.

The MFG code is mid 2006-05-11, so I'm pretty sure it's a Hitachi-LG.

    I dled NFS
    ran it through abgx 1.0.4.
burned at 1x on verbatim +verified
    put activate disk in xbox
    swapped for nfs
    accepted the update
    reboot

activate disk then NFS disk, but it gives me "unreadable disk" error
is it just a bad burn? or am I missing something

So is there a way to make it work even though we updated directly from the AC.B or NFS HP?? Is there hope??? Please guys some feedback here.
Also there is a file supposedly on the internet that "patches" ap 2.5 to ap 2.0?? Is that true?
    Appreciate any answer guys.

if your system is stuck in the update loop after trying to update from a backup disc then you need to use the retail copy to apply the update. updating via usb may work not sure.

if you were to patch ap1.5 to 2.0 then it would be a redflag on live
