Hello everyone! I had a few questions, as I have a Sony DW-Q28A installed on my desktop machine. Or at least, that's what the hardware profile says in my Control Panel, but I've had a lot of problems lately related to it. For one, it no longer burns at 4x. The option doesn't even show up on Nero anymore, although it used to. I thought it might just be the change in media that I recently had to make (my local store no longer carried the 8x, so I had to start getting 16x DVD-R), but I found an old spindle of blank 8x DVD+Rs, and the option is not there for them either. It's worked fine since I have had this computer, which was more than a year ago. But recently I've noticed some minor writing errors, small but not crucial skips in videos, and things like that. Earlier I burned another copy of something I had earlier written, but this time I used a DVD+R rather than a DVD-R. The +R did not have the skips that the -R did. But the -Rs haven't had any skips up to now, and this disturbs me. So I started to look for a firmware upgrade or at least an updated driver, and that was the beginning of my nightmare. I kept finding updates, but when I would execute the file, it is always unable to find that I have any such drive. It just doesn't detect it. It says that it's for only Sony DW-Q28A and has a blank list of detected drives accordingly. I'm not sure if I should try to flash the drive and then install the executable, but I certainly don't want to flash it if it isn't going to detect. I have tried updating through Windows (which is a joke), and that doesn't work either. I'm running XP Pro SP1 at the moment. If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful. Thanks very much for your time.
