moved to correct forum. if not using the new intel cpu for macs than probably can't put ms windows on it like xp. will have to use mac os 9 or 10 depending on what laptop it is. what is the model name & # of the laptop?

hi thankyou verymuch for replying to my thread, i have never used a apple computer before and thought if someone gave it to me i dont want to waste it lol.
Its called a macintosh powerbook g3,
when i turn it on i get the message: ! the system software on this disk is designed for starting up from floppy disk only. please re-install the system software from the disk or cd that came with the computer.
it then goes to a grey screen with a little square in the top right corner saying mac, under that there is a bin saying trash, on the left above the screen there is a little multicoloured apple, next to that is the word file , then edit, then view which u cant use, then label , then special,i cant do nothing with it and only being a one parent i cant afford to keep buying diffrent exspensive software, so i would like to know if its worth fixing and how much it might cost in pounds please not dollars, i hope you can help me thankyou very much again for all your help.xx

Sounds like it's OS 9. Check the "Apple System Profiler". Get the processor / machine speed. Depending on how much RAM you have in it, you may only be able to run OS 9 on it. It may not even support OS X. There is no way to run any windows apps on that. Virtual PC at that point would not be possible. That's if you can find VPC for OS 9.
