Hi spoogey!

[qoute]1. Is it possible to export tv programs that have been recorded on the archos to a pc?
Yeah. Simply plug the Archos to your PC, open the "Video" Folder and copy the File you want to your PC.

[qoute]2. I am thinking about getting windows media player is it possible to export videos from that so that you can convert it to archos format?
..I'm not sure what you mean.
You want to convert Videos to the Archos Format?
If you use the AV500 in the WindowsDevice Mode, simply start WindowsMediaPlayer load your Videos into that Player, and then Click "Synchronize". So WinMediaPlayer will automatically convert these Videos to the Archos Format (.wmv Videos)

But there is a better Method.
Copy the Program "VirtualDub" from the AV500 to your Computer.
(You can find it in the Folder "\Data\Installation Software\" on your AV500)
With this Programm you can convert Videos, with much more Options.

I hope I was able to Help you.

Ask Again, if there are further Questions.

Cheers, Schwarzer Riese

No I want to export videos that have been record from a windows media centre machine - so I record a video from the epg is it possible to convert that to archos and export?

Also I have tried that copy method and I get there isn't enough storage available...and yes there is more than enough storage on the destination drive....I have the latest firmware.

I thought this was a protection thing - Any ideas?

Hi spoogey!

Thats really a little bit strange.

I would really be Surprised if there is no Option to Export recorded Videos to a "Plays for Sure" Player.
I mean these things are both from Microsoft, and they really must be stupid if they do not Support their own Player-Technology...??

OK, so if you found that Recorded Video on your Computer's Hard Drive, what format is it?
Is it a .wmv Video, or a .mpeg File, or perhaps a .ts File?
Also try to look into the File-Properties Dialoge in Windows.

But even if it is an Copy Protected (DRM) File, I can't understand why it isn't possible to Copy it to the Archos..
The Archos is build for playing Back PlaysForSure Videos, too!

Also try using another Video Conversion Programm besides that Virtual Dub.
Try to use "Xilisoft 3GP Video Converter" (no Freeware!) or other Conversion Programms you can find in the Internet!
This one is free for Example:

Good Luck.

Not sure what you mean about needing cable? I am using freeview and basically the freeview box I have has a vcr scart connection which I connect into for recording and I have the other on my scart selector for play back. I don't know how you would do it if you are just receiving your tv straight from a coaxial cable as it doesn't have a tuner built in. Although apparently the new version is going to come with a dual tuner built in which is going to be good.

Its the sony one - its a little more expensive that some of the other units.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/203-5973649-2034304

I'd be surprised if there aren't other units that have this scart facility?

A nice thing with this unit is that you can setup a number of recorded events so the unit will flick over to different channels automatically. A lot of the time I will set the archos to record over a day and sync the schedules - nice and simply!

The reason I couldn't export was because I didn't have it setup as a hard disk unit I had the other setting on and this makes it difficult to export - I think it exclusively use wmp mode.

Also ignore all the programs above about recording software

THE SOFTWARE TO USE IS "CloneDVD Mobile" the most fantastic bit of software from http://www.slysoft.com/en/ ---anydvd is great too especially since dvd decryptor is no more :( ---

well that is overpriced compared to most freeview boxes - just get one with an additional scart and you will be good! I would expect to get one for 1/3rd of the sony one.
