The only way you can play HD-DVDs on your 360 is if you buy the add on drive. Even if it's modded, it uses a different kind of laser so it won't read HD-DVD disk.
Let me get this straight, just to beat a dead horse. You go on directly stating that 360 games are not HD. Then turn around and say you actually had no idea. If you had no idea, why did you even say you did by saying they didn't? Then you say you you know what all your consoles can do yet have no idea about anything a 360 can do, or what you need to do to get what you want. 360 plays HD-DVD movies only through a add-on HD DVD player, that come august 1, will sell for 170 or so dollars + 5 free movies.
We posted at the same time, but I didn't even remember that it was the same guy who supposedly "knew" that the 360 wasn't HD.
Mr. Rydis......... I don't quite know where you are located but 360 hd-dvd players have been selling here in North America since few months already But thanks for the input anyways......., Why does everyone get so excited, all it is is a freaking video games & hd or regular dvd movies. Why is everyone so nervous & ready to jump the gun...........people relax, take a cold beer, have a smoke or go have sex........
I don't know about him, but I live in North America also, and I think he was just saying that they were already out, but that a new price would be set and they would include 5 free HD-DVD movies as of August 1st. I can't speak for anyone else, but as for me, I'm calm, and have been through this whole thread, just trying to explain to you that the 360 is full HD. I don't think I'll be participating in any of those activities however, since I'm only 16.
I was explaining the price drop, was it really "that hard to grasp". As for the second part, its really not about games and Hd-DVD at all. Its about, the nicest way I can put this; dumb people. You make claims, then when proved wrong, you switch your defense just to avoid yourself embarrassment. It has nothing to do with the subject, but just yourself as a person, its just sad. I wont post here anymore either, the question has been answered.
Tks for input, someone told me earlier that it's better to use VGA cables versus cables that come with the consol. Is there much difference between these two? Well as for playing these games on the right TV, I do have exactly what it takes. I have 60" Sony SXRD (HDTV which also does 1080P) but it's rear projection but I am rather reluctant to play games on it, afraid it might damage TV. Right now I have it hooked-up to another standard 32" TV.
The vga cable is needed for 1080p resolution. I did notice a big difference with switching from the component (r,g,b) to the vga.
The component will also output at 1080p. The big problem is that there are very few hdtv's which will accept 1080p through component. That's why the vga is suggested for max resolution. Just about all the hdtv's have a vga input. You'd have to look at the mfg's specs for your hdtv to find out what the highest resolution is which it'll accept through component. What is the exact model of your Sony?
Don’t want to join in on the argument but cheers I never knew that the 360 can play games in high def thought you needed the hd player ad on got my son an Xbox for Christmas connected it to the lcd down stairs just too try it out didn’t know that if you flick the switch on the lead to hd it would play in high def that’s if connected up properly he’s having a lcd for this Christmas Shh don’t tell him so look forward to trying that unless it dies before xmass cheers again golden rule in life don’t pretend to know it all because there is always some one knows a bit more, good to learn.
Thank you, so I should see a huge difference in Video when switching from Standard TV to either 1080i or 1080p
Why does everyone seem to get so stressed about 720p and 1080p?? At the end of the day, the difference between the two is not GIGANTIC like many people seem to pretend it is. Also unless you have a 50+inch screen and are sitting less than 7-8 feet away, your not going to notice anyway. And whos going to be sitting that close to that size TV for a long time without thier eyes melting. What really counts is buying a decent TV which shows the quality image. I've seen 50inch 720p plasmas which i would outright have over some other 50inch 1080p plasmas. So dont assume resolution is EVERYTHING. I recommend setting your TV's correctly though with a THX dvd or other, as correctly configuring your tv's settings will make a huge difference. Then stop worrying, and start enjoying! You didnt buy the console to worry about technical specs, you bought it to complete GOW on insane mode!
Check this video out. Although it doesnt go through 1080i vs 1080p exactly, it explains interlaced and progessive images. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-JXfyvlPh0 EDIT: Ahh just read it properly. Jumping from SD to HD is huge. You will definatly see a big difference in video images. But it does really depend on your eyes as to how major the transformation will be. Go to your local AV retailer and have a good look, also ask for a demo if possible.
Lots of them about. Going from Avia to THX. Avia being much more comprehensive but costs money (around $30 i think). THX Optimizer should be an extra function on some of your DVD's. Put some in and look around in options/settings and see if you can spot it on any of them. Using this will definatly improve your picture but i THINK they are specific to the DVD so they make you adjust your screen for that particular film. But the differences arent too much and usually setting for one will give a decent image through the others (definatly much better then pre-calibration!) I cant comment on the Avia discs as i've never used one/bought one so i couldnt say if its worth the money. But looking at this tutorial, it looks ok but not sure if its value for money after calibrating: http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/Video-calibration.html Hope thats of some help. Im not really an AV man, only getting into the whole scene quite recently and have much more to learn. But definatly check out http://www.avsforum.com/ for more info on all of your AV equipment. =)
