Are any hackers working on a way to play xbox360 games off the HD?

Sorry if there is a sub-forum for hacking related questions, I couldn't find it....

Since the Dashboard update now allows games to be copied to the HDD of the xbox 360 (because too many people were getting their discs scratched) is there a work-around which let's you use a "dummy disc" to play all the games on the HD instead of using the original everytime.

I haven't been keeping up with what's going on in the hacking world like I used to when I modded my first box. Any help/insight on this concept of using a dummy-disc would be great.

Why can't it be done? Because YOU haven't thought of a way. Get off your high horse! It's a good thing you don't run things else we'd never make any advancements in technology because your narrow mind can't comprehend anything beyond your little world or train of thought.

Also the purpose of a forum is to be able to ask questions and share knowledge so don't give me that shytt to go do simple research, I checked around the net.

Until we discovered the 007 hack for the original xbox everyone said you have to get a mod-chip
, that there no other way, and even back then there were DUMB people like you that answered people's questions and said they were dumb for asking

So there's been no talk about developing such a thing...no exploits have been found which could possibly make it feasible?

    I agree.

On topic: I suppose it would be possible, infectus modchips is probably the closest thing so far, somebody just has to design a program for it.

Don't be too hard on the op, this question isn't that stupid. With the new August 11 dashboard being "leaked" which is supposed to include games on demand, there might be people working on a way to finally run games strickly off the hard drive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath.

Also, alot of times a "simple search" results in wading through countless outdated posts.

Yeah this would be a great feature, but is it really worth the effort and time spent in to trying to find a way to do it? It really isn't that hard to get off the couch and press a button and insert a disc. Plus, with the 120gb limit on capacity, you aren't going to be installing your library of games.

I am personally hoping they will make a "homebrew" type thing like they did with the wii.

But I wouldn't expect anything any time soon.

but imagine having a few laptop hdds laying around with several games on each. no more expensive verb dl's and no more burning coasters. that would be cool huh? I have high hopes for this but doubt we will see it. good luck to anyone working on this though!! you have my support!

I really don't see your math. For the price of the 120GB Western Digital BEVS, you could have roughly 42 verbatim disc for the same price. Verbatim from NewEgg
Now, after formatting the 120GB hard drive, you would have roughly around 107GB of capacity. Given that each game installed to the hard drive would be roughly around 7GB, you could install only 15 games.

If you have a good burner, you won't have to worry about burning coasters. 1.30$ is cheap for the quality you get with Verbatim. You really can't complain about the price when everything else is free.

i have a feeling he was hoping that you could use an external hard drive via USB or something. something like a TB disc, that would solve a lot of problems with storage.

thanks. I was'nt suggesting we go out and buy 50 120g hdds. Like I said, I don't see this ever happening but with a little outside the box thinking, perhaps we can come up with some kind of ad-hoc way of tackling the storage limitations.

i ment it cant be done at the moment this is very accessable information to anyone who takes a little time to look instead of spending all thier time trying to insult the people they are asking for help from. all i said was that ur question was dumb because it has been asked a million times already i never insulted you but for some reason people have this notion that they can ask dumb questions and not get dumb replies back. i hope that they do come out with this ability it would be awesome. You should consider taking a chill pill
You checked around the net? and what did you find? It cant be done right so why come in here and ask questions that you already have the answer too. its like me coming in here and asking, hmm can i play ps3 games on my 360!!! Duh!! I mean of all the topics in this 360 general discusion that are so repetitive dont you think that something so groundbreaking as that would not be on the top of the list of discusions

I'm constantly looking on the net for a announcement for a larger HDD. A 500GB would be perfect.

Yeah but can you imagine the price? I think gamestop charges $100 or more for the 120GB. Waste of money if you ask me. Copying games over to the drive doesn't really improve load time on all games. Prototype was one that needed it. Can't see spending over $200 on a drive this big.

Gotta agree with you leerage, but it seems that everybody is looking for the "laziest" method available.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see games run off the hard drive i.e. EvolutionX. The Original Xbox's EvoX, UnleashX, Avalaunch, XBMC mod has made everyone lazy as hell. I can't tell you how many times I have heard people tell me that it's not worth it to mod the 360 if you can't copy games to the hard drive. And these same people always call me up asking "can you run games off the hard drive yet?"

    Not worth it? Riiiiiggghht.

I remember as a teen in '94-95 spending $500 on a SNES/Genesis backup unit that copied cartridges to floppy disk. It's always worth it if it saves you money. Carts were 50 dollars, floppies were 50 cents. I traded in about 55 games, and Funcoland (Gamestop) cut me a check for 465 bucks.

Haha funcoland, I remember that, looks like we're around the same age.

But yeah I had trouble with the first xbox, I was one of the few who moded the box and there weren't video tutorial's on youtube back then to do everything. Eventually I figured it out, my youth had me curious like a cat, I even blew my graphics card somehow trying to flash my mod chip.

Ultimately I'm looking for a solution like EvoX dashboard on the 360, or some way to copy the games directly to the HDD. Having a drive running outside my computer, buying a special VIA PCI card just to flash my 360 drive seems like a lot of work to me. Maybe it's just cuz I'm getting old now.

I'm sure innovations will come along, I remember when the 007 hack was discovered.
