I have a laptop computer, and my DVD-Burner seems defective and dead. It never burns right, and always comes up with "Power Calibration Error." Of course, I did research and found that it most likely is dead. Plus, it's a Matshita UJ-840D, which I also found out sucks.

Since I have a laptop, and since I'm not experienced with changing DVD-drives, I was thinking of just getting an external burner. There are some burners that seem rather good at reasonable prices (60 or so euros). But I want to make sure that they will work.

I'm trying to burn DVDs for my PS2 "back-ups." I want to make sure that external burners will do the job.

Internal or external writers all write the same. It just depends on what write speed you want. I don't this effects ps2 backups but you should check in the ps2 forums to find out.
