Alright, just wondering if HDMI cables really make the picture THAT much better or if they're just a waste...

Im not too sure but from what ive seen it only seems to be "easier" connecting one cable instaead of 5 and from comparisons between Component and HDMI i could hardly tell apart, if you really have a amazing eye :p which sees a 2% or less quality increase go for it or if you want to get rid of the cable clutter go for it.

If they are from Monoprice.com (less than $5) and NOT from BestBuy (more than $75) then yeah...as they are virtually the same product but you don't get ripped off!

Yeah HDMI cable definately improves the picture quality.

As ppl have said short length cheap cables perform the same as short length expensive ones. The only time you really want to be buying an expensive cable is if you need more than 10 metres worth!

And as I always say, make sure you buy a version 1.3 HDMI cable, any of the version a, b, or c cables will do.

Well, going off of the original question, then, what's the difference between HDMI cables and those Green/Blue/Red(?) cables? As far as I can tell, they both do the exact same job; one is just less cumbersome to work with.

if your HDTV supports HDMI Go for it, the reason being that some LCD actually have a higher refresh while using a HDMI. HDMI also supports audio out, while component doesn't. with component you have 3 cables for video and 2 for audio. just go HDMI if you can.

Component cables are analog and HDMI is digital, meaning you would usually get a slightly better image quality due to a clearer signal.

    Bingo!

Digital is always better. No if's, and's, or but's about it.

Although, component is not a slouch. It still is HD.

And, of course, as everyone has already said, brand name HDMI cables are a ripoff.

My brother just got his own PS3. I told him to save his money and get an HDMI cable off ebay. He got an HDMI cable (of course 1.3) and an Optical Audio cable for $11 shipped. No problems whatsoever thus far.

Yes Deffenlty go for one.. I went from scart to hmdi and was amazed with the picture quality, no jumping and no dead pixals . Also got a non-braned one from game for about a couple of quid and still have it now.

Thanks a lot for the answers. Sure makes me enjoy my PS3 much more than that lil' thing known as an Xbox 360 now.
