Let me start by saying this is a great forum and Shrink rules.

I stop by here each week to see what kind of probs I'm going to have backing up the new releases. One thing has been really bugging me lately though, if you type in the name of any of the new releases you will see threads that are 10 or 20 pages long who's got time to go through all that! Mostly all the replies say the same thing over an over again, get Anydvd man. Well I don't want to buy Anydvd, granted I tried the 21day deal and it worked great but I'm what you'd call el-cheapo, wouldn't pay a dime to see a beaver fart out a wooden nickel!

Is there any way the moderators could start a new thread that would exclude users of Anydvd and help people who want to backup with free stuff? Simple step-by-step of what you did to get the job done.

Not to start anything crazy but almost all those threads are started by "newbies." These are members that, more often than not, do NOT search the forums for the answers that have already been posted. They are always the same problems too: out of memory, CRC, cannot compress etc. All these problems can be rectified by the same method. No, not AnyDVD but newer programs.

All the threads that list problems for the newer DVDs always start off by listing the already mentioned problem, then another member saying to use another program (think Alkohol's brilliant VOBB guides)--a newer program at that: DVDFab, VOBB or CloneDVD.

I swear by AnyDVD, Shrink and Decryptor. I hardly ever run into any problems. If I do, 1- I'll search the forums to see what everyone else has used and/or 2- Use another program!

I understand that you don't wanna spend money (neither do I--but I've elected to do so) and you're tired of reading everyone suggesting to buy AnyDVD, but how do you think the Senior Members and Addicts feel about reading the same damn problems posted by new members that don't utilize the search function and don't have the sense to use another program that isn't 2-3 years old (Shrink).

*Edit* Want proof? Check out the myriad threads dedicated to Narnia, King Kong, Capote, Geisha and if you wanna go back further, Wedding Crashers, The Cave, The Fog. They all list the same problems and they all have the same remedies (and not just AnyDVD as the sole remedy).

I for one am no salesman, and with four kids money is tight at times, but I got tired of reading every bodys problems with certain movies and granted most of them were the same with several different threads. and I for one was one of the newbies doing it. So I just bought anydvd from everyones advice and have not looked back. Actually don't get to post on here as much because I have no stupid back up questions. Just my two cents though.

To all of the AnyDVD objectors.....If AnyDVD was free. You would not be crying about receiving free advice? So why get mad at AnyDVD "Owners" who were just like you and are still like you. Often having to resort to current freeware as well as older freeware programs like SHRINK and other current freeware. In order to successfully back-up a given movie. I think it's silly to become jealous over forum members who haven chosen to spend money for decrypting software that if nothing else is reliable. Why? Cause Slysoft consistently does their homework and provides updates that I definitely appreciate.

What would you do If Mr.Soto decides to sell Vob Blanker? A very vital tool now a days. Unwilling to pay? You, like many would be in a jam, or be forced to search the net for patches(CRACKS)which are unreliable and naughty. Did you think about this, You buy AnyDVD, It's yours in you or your business name, it will not expire in "Any" way. You will receive frequent updates that allow you to continue with what has to be one of your favorite pass times, backing up spare copies of your original purchased DVD's. Hmmmmm? Maybe "PURCHASING" and "DVD" at any level is the real problem all the AnyDVD objectors have?................Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?:p

AnyDVD is a better superior product,
Also faster and EASIER to use than any other decrypting method,
What would you offer inexpirienced people to use?
They (Slysoft) are also PARTNERS with afterdawn,
There is a reason for all of this,
Because hands down it is simply the best.

No one was talking to or about you Allen.
Your good dont even sweat it!

    @Jizmak,
    I agree 100%.
Slysoft has gone out of their way to help out and if they make a few bucks, good for them. We have fewer choices nowdays with Shrink obsolete as a ripper and Decrypter no longer updated. Lets hope AnyDVD hangs in there.

I never said all 'newbies' start the same threads over and over again. I know all newbies don't do that. But, again, go to the archives and look up all the new releases for the week and it's 'newbies' that are starting the threads, asking the same questions, etc.

Make no mistake, to backup movies you don't need AnyDVD. There are plenty of free programs out there that can do the job. It's just that all these posts start asking why Shrink can't do the movie on its lonesome. It's because it's so outdated! AnyDVD eliminates that problem--easily, I might add.

The whole point of a forum is to offer opinions and suggestions...what the hell do you think people are doing when they mention AnyDVD? lol I'm a huge advocate of AnyDVD but I never say that you or anyone else has to buy it. It's not like the world is gonna explode if you don't. It's a mere suggestion (a smart one ;)) and many people share the same sentiment--hence the reason why it's so frequently mentioned.

It's absolutely ludicrous to ridicule the members that push AnyDVD. Not only is it childish but it is also hypocritical because you're saying it's wrong for us to repeatedly push this program when other newer members ask the same questions over and over and over and over and over again.

And BTW, there are plenty of guides out there that offer step-by-step procedures on how to backup a movie without AnyDVD. Searching the site would produce them ;)

Yep, AnyDVD gives Shrink a new lease on life. It is a good solution and actually makes programs like Nero's Recode 2 excellent.

Newbie here....I used to roll my eyes whenever anyone mentioned AnyDVD, until I got it myself. You just do what you have to do I guess.

Whats wrong with paying for a program every now and then. It keeps us all honest. With the Internet we get enough for free so If you have to spend a few dollars once in a blue moon to get a good result then so be it.

If people are tired of hearing that AnyDVD is the solution to their problems, they should start using the search function. It is unreasonable to think that someone will sit down and type out a detailed step by step instruction to back up a certain movies. There hasn't been a single movie that gives people a problem. There are a couple of copy protection systems that do though. The solutions are the same no matter what the movie. Use AnyDVD, or one of the other solutions provided by members with much more knowledge than myself.

i am a "newbie", i guess by title. i have been on this forum for two years. the reason i still have the "newbie" status is because i dont really reply that much. i use the search function which i wished more and more people would learn to do. i usually get on this forum twice a day, morning and at night. it seems i always seem the same questions floating around.
    WHY CANT SHRINK WORK?
HOW DO I COPY SUCH AND SUCH MOVIE?
    DVD SHRINK PROBLEMS
all you have to do is use the search and then we could have some more meaningful topics. instead we have to keep looking at the same things repeated over and over. maybe if people would stop responding to the same question people might start taking notice. i dont know, just throwing my two cents worth out there.

I, for one, am one of those who will suggest AnyDVD as a first choice of programs to use. Why?, because it always works!! I like problem free work and do not care to spend a lot of time and energy when its not necessary. And yes, AnyDVD cost money, about the cost of TWO DVDs that all these Newbies are "buying". Not all that much in the scheme of things.

Some people enjoy the challenge of alternative methods and I say more power to them, but I'm not one of those. We should be thankful, I guess, that most people do not initially want to use AnyDVD. If they did, I believe we would have essentially no querries to answer.

It's interesting that the two things really irk people here are to suggest using AnyDVD and to use the Search function, both suggestions that will make most inexperienced user's efforts less complicated.

I will suggest free programs and also AnyDVD the poster has their choice of what they want to do. I do not push any software and I doubt if can force anyone to buy it. I only know what works and AnyDVD works, it is consitent and updated. The price is cheap for what you get. If the free programs work then use them, if not then you have an option.
