    Hi!

I´m having problems burning any kind of media with nero 6. Recently I upgraded my ASPI drivers and that´s when my problems began. When the burn process is done nero says, burn process completed succesfully but the cd is blank. So it must be some conflict between nero and the system ASPI drivers?!
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Im posting a logfile from my last burn-attempt. All help appreciated! Thanks!

The DMA is off on your burner, you need to get it turned back on.

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf

Is there some reason you needed to update the ASPI, considering Nero has its own ASPI and the current version you have uses NT SPTI as its interphase.

Have you tried a System Restore, to see if that will correct your problems? Or uninstall your ASPI drivers. Dependent on which ASPI you use, you can try running the ASPICheck.exe and delete the folders, or if it was ForceASPI they should have a kill or dump exe. System Restore might be your best bet.

I've been hoping for someone having a problem to try to uninstall their ASPI drivers, since no one seems to know if they can cause problems or not.

Just for your info, my system works fine and if I use Nero InfoTool, the ASPI tab shows no system ASPI, but the Nero ASPI is working correctly.

It is my understanding that Windows XP doesn't need ASPI, but if ASPI is installed and corrupt it can cause erratic behavior...i.e. CD's will burn, but not DVD's or vice versa. Never really put any thought into removing it all together to correct a problem, nice idea.

    *Sits and awaits results* LOL

I do not run ASPI with my system, in fact when I did install it I had nothing but troubles with it. Aspi is only needed if a certain program demands it, and most programs today have switched to interphase with XP's SPTI. Here is a good read from some developers on ASPI, and whether it is needed or not. You can look through it and make your own decision.

Edit: Here is some more info on Aspi. Interesting

Thanks for the answers. So if I understand you right I dont need any ASPI drivers on my system if I want to burn music or movies?! Is there any way to uninstall the drivers? So whats the smartest thing to do right now if I want to burn music without problems?

Try the suggestion about turning on the DMA for your drive/drives. If that doesn't work, we can look at a next step.

I looked up the DMA under my computer and its on. In the nero log it says off so thats strange. Anyhow, I uninstalled the system ASPI drivers and things got alittle bettter. I could burn music and then play it on my stereo but not on my computer. I cant burn movies though.

Now that you think the DMA is working, you might try a burn with a DVD and then post the NeroHistory log, in your Core directory. Just as before, make sure and take out the serial numbers. The log should show if you still have any ASPI drivers and if the DMA has changed. Prior to this, as far as I know only the Nvidia chipset seems to give Nero problems about getting correct information. You might run the Nero InfoTools and see if it also shows the DMA on. And make sure you have done a reboot, preferably cold, to make sure everything took correctly.

If you are doing audio CDs, I think they recommend using DAO or Disk at Once to keep the laser from turning on and off between each track.

If you have the user files for some of the Nero products (downloaded from Nero site) some of them have troubleshooting pages that might help.

The nero info tool, as the log, says that the dma is off. Under "my computer" it says dma available. Im posting a logfile from my latest attempt to burn a movie.

I congratulate you. No one else has been willing to remove the ASPI drivers. It appears you were successful.

The DMA thing is a little strange. I have a SATA drive that shows DMA off, but under the device manager, it shows DMA on and Mode 6. So if the device manager says it is on, I would have to believe it.

The burn looks like it was successful. You said earlier the CD was blank. One of the help files I mentioned said something about making sure you were burning in a format your burner could read. Their example was a CD-RW which the drive had to be multiread capable to see it. Perhaps something like that is going on with yours.

Are you going to try a DVD next?

I looked again at the dma settings both primary and secondary channel and it says.
Primary Device 0; DMA, ultra mode 5
Primary Device 1; DMA not available

    Secondary Device 0; PIO
Secondary Device 2; DMA not available

So maybe the DMA isn´t working as good as I thought.
My nero seems to have a life of it´s own. It seems very unstable as it works properly sometimes and sometimes not.
I´m using regular cd-r which usually works fine, except for now. Cd-rw doesnt seem to work at all. I don´t think I can burn dvd, I have never tried cause I usually burn xvid movies directly on cd-r.

Any ideas what causing this trouble? Maybe I should reinstall it all?
