Hello, I have recently purchased a Sony DRU-710A external burner (I believe that is the right model number), but I am having an issue with it. While under Windows XP Service Pack 1, it refuses to see a blank DVD (plus or minus) as a blank DVD instead it simply turns itself into a CD-ROM. I need to remain with service pack 1 because of my Epson R200 and its driver incompatibility with SP2 (every picture prints super dark), so what I am hoping is that someone can give me any suggestions or ideas about what to do. Perhaps any software out there that simply tells windows that there IS a blank DVD in the drive. Thank you for any help you can provide. - SolShrike
Have the same burner used it with service pack 1&2. Connected with firewire or usb? I had alot of trouble connected by firewire switched to usb connection troubles went away.
Its plugged into a USB 2.0 PCMCIA Card which is in the side of the laptop. Currently I am running Windows XP Home SP1, as SP2 conflicts with the print quality of my printer (its weird I know, but trust me. Its awful with SP2). Mainly the trouble is this: I have several home videos (vacation, paelentology museum trip, zoo trip, staff christmas party, etc) that I want to duplicate. I have DVD X Copy Platinum (no I don't copy movies despite it being the popular use for it) and it goes along perfectly fine until it asks me for the blank media. I put it in the external burner and it sits there waiting because the drive now acts like a simple CD-Rom. Gawd I wish these things were easier lol
go to my computer and see if the drive even shows up there ,your PC may not be reading the drive and BTW its DVD plus R and DVD dash R ,not minus
Minus, Dash, Negative, whatever. Different people call it different things. Anyways. I'm going to try a couple things today and see if it works. If it doesn't, I'll give Sony a call (*shudder*).
